Could managing precious resources mean the difference between life and death in a survival situation? With the mindset of a survival scenario, I set off to build a fire in somewhat difficult conditions with lessons learned as precious resources burn up. And it drives me nuts when my gear is scattered from hell to breakfast.

Excellent point in regards to managing the few vital resources that you may have... especially in such unforgiving situations.

Two is one and one is none! This is why I have another stash in another area of my kit. And it was a lesson that I learned as well. Great videos bro! On the storage, I use an empty plastic container (cap flips up) that dried onion or garlic comes in. Not fire proof but won't go up in flames like a plastic bag, and they are light. These work great for a lot of other things as well. And they're free when your spices run out. My wife saves them for me. Great for tossing back peanuts and sun seeds.

Wow, great lesson for the rest of us brother! We did another New Year Hike and had breakfast...double checked our rest area to find some fuel tabs left on the ground! Easy to do huh.

Thanks for sharing!

We all make mistakes, but if we learn from them it was a GREAT Lesson learned.
Now I won't make that same mistake.

Keep up the good work.

Everything has its place. I carry many redundancies in my fire kit. Great point!

Good info and reminder for a potentially life-saving situation. Details, details. I'm the same way. Everything has to be in its prearranged place when I'm on any task (pretty limited now that I'm, well, at home). But organization is vital, & it drives me crazy just being around folks who aren't. I've been in too many situations where being organized has made the difference between making it home that night or not. So I'm glad you made this clear & concise video. Happy new year, friend!

In a survival situation, you want to be as methodical and deliberate as possible in all your tasks. Attention to detail is crucial. Good video Cr0cket. Something like that could absolutely have lethal consequences. No doubt about it. For less than a two minute video, the information in it was priceless. Thanks for all your vids buddy.

That's a great lesson..
I always carry more than one way to make fire.. just in case something happens or I make a mistake. I'd suggest a second small baggie next time.
Two is one.. one is none.
Thanks for the video

I one time was lighting a bonfire in my friend's backyard and set down my fire-steel to coax the tinder into burning the small branches I had set up and got the fire blazing and was busing moving wood and adding wood and completely forgot about my all black fire-steel. I realized later when I couldn't find it it had melted into the fire. I bought another, though this time blaze orange so I can always see it and I always put it back into my knife sheath quickly after use.

Watch " To build a fire" Jack London. Lessons learned can be forgotten when under stress. Nice reminder.

Yes, for sure! For me, it's nicer to have sturdy re-cycled containers or just random reusable items in general, that can last for years and hold memories as well as serving as a hardier container, than some old ugly generic plastic bag. An old, beat up Altoids container thats gone on multiple hikes becomes sacred after a while, LOL.
