The Greatest NFL Video Game of All Time

Why is ESPN NFL 2K5, the last 2K NFL game, considered the best sports video game of all time? What happened to the NFL 2K series? Why is Madden NFL the only football game in town? I remember playing this for the first time and being blown away by the presentation. It was literally like watching an ESPN broadcast

Also remember u could download your own music onto this game and select personal soundtrack...this game was so detailed it was ridiculous

And on Xbox you were able to insert your own custom songs into the soundtrack. Just awesome!

The ENTIRE 2k5 line was REMARKABLE. NHL, NBA, and NFL were all incredible.

Just another random cool thing they included in the game - if you're running into the endzone and just let go of the thumbstick within the 5 yard line or so, the player will automatically enter the endzone with a unique animation, almost taunting. Was fun to do on breakaway plays when no one was close.

Madden will never touch the greatness that 2k5 brought to the table it's a shame that kids these days don't know what a great football game is. Great video man

The fact that it’s 2022 and we STILL don’t have anything close to this for a football video game is truly remarkable. I’m so mad I don’t have this game anymore… should’ve been put in a time capsule 😭

Being in my mid-20s when this came out, I'm so grateful and fortunate to be able to say that my personal "golden era" of NFL football coincided with the undisputable golden era of football gaming.
Damn near brings a tear to my eye thinking about the fun I had playing this game. I'm STILL in disbelief that it was only $19.99.

The only thing Madden changes each year is it's roster and TD celebrations.

The simulation was so realistic that as a kid, I would let random teams play and watch it when I was bored. The interesting thing was that you could create a team with different kinds of players from other teams, and you could assign any VIP profile to them just to see how they would play. Basically, teams played different when you had Shaun Alexander or LT. Or whether you had Brett Farve or Tom Brady. If Randy Moss was on your team, your QB would play differently than if you had someone like Charles Rogers on there. I've yet to see Madden emulate that same success. And they won't until they have competition. Madden 20 won't live up to the hype, and no Madden ever will, until they bring the house like 2K did. And that takes passion and commitment to being the best brand.

I was playing this game the other day. One thing that blew my mind was that when I put Philip Rivers ahead of Drew Brees in the depth chart, Rivers throws with his unique shot put throwing motion. They literally customized the animations of a backup quarterback!
