I also noticed that the readers of the darkhold gains more power but got older quickly. In MOM, you can clearly see that Scarlet Witch and Strange look older than they should be so my theory is the darkhold give powers to the reader to make them do bad things at the same time it suck the evil sprit of the readers making them older.
