Peppermint OS Review 2022.02

Показать описание
Peppermint OS is back again after the sad loss of the project leader, Mark Greaves (PCNetSpec), two years ago.
Peppermint OS is now based on Debian and comes with the XFCE Desktop.
It’s a minimal Linux Distribution aimed more for use in an online world with “Site Specific Browser” based apps.
No web browser is included out-of-the-box, but you can install your favourite browser easily through the welcome screen.

Over 6 years now I have been using only one Distro and that is Linux Mint. No tinkering, no customizing, just as it comes apart from changing the desktop wallpaper.

I wish all distros would let you choose what to install instead of installing tons of useless packages.

They are also looking at a Devuan based version as well.

Guides are ok but I often flick to a YT channel or a forum for help.
This approach of minimalistic saves going through everything uninstalling bloatwear.

Been quite a while sience I used Peppermint OS. I really liked it before, may have to come back. You should do a Peppermint VS Mint updated video. I really just need Steam, Google Chrome, and Virtualbox with some basic utilities and calculator, etc. A full desktop almost seams to much anymore, spending like 99% of my time in Chrome. Running two system 76 laptops, this one with Mint and a new one with a Ryzen 7 5000 series running Zorin OS.

can't use docky like I could up to PM10, has to do w/libc6 being different versions apparently. Cairo Dock and Latte Dock look nice, but a simple trash can icon/applet on either don't let me easily drag and drop files to the trash like I could with Docky. Tried to remedy installing some xfce4 dependencies but none seem to help.

Oh wow, I haven't seen Peppermint OS since around 2012.

Your mic is very nice and of studio quality
could you please consider speaking up? Your video from today and some from 5 years ago have you at just above a whisper and users with inferior headphones will have to make you louder than comfortable to be registerable.

Memory and CPU usage info at idle and with 3 browser tabs open would be useful.

I figured they had gone over to Debian so they could still offer a 32bit version, I guess I figured wrong

retropie still isnt supported and my hard drive made funny noises while running it. i switched back to linux lite and the clicking noises disappeared. why would that happen? i used to daily drive peppermint and wish i could again. but now im worried it will damage my dard ware.

I see that PeppermintOS 11 is based on Debian 11 now, but there is no 32bit version anymore, despite Debian 11 still supporting the architecture.

if Peppermint = Debian + Xfce, and Xubuntu = Debian + Xfce, then is Xubuntu > Peppermint or is Xubuntu < Peppermint or is Xubuntu == Peppermint?

:I see that your channel is very valuable. I would love to repost your whole channel, without changing anything, on the nice platform named Gan Jing World. If you agree with that, please let me know. Thanks!
