As member of the PepperminttOS team we thank you so much for this review of our distro.
Looking forward to checking out more of your videos.

On the welcome screen I thought I saw an option to install the Gnome software store, if that counts as a package manager. :)

I was using Gallium OS on my Chromebook and was looking into switching t another Distro due to the lack of updates of Gallium. Now knowing that Peppermint is based on Debian, I'ma switch. Thanks fr the video homie

Maybe Peppermint isn't polished, but your videos are. Good job Matt. Very watchable as usual.

I've already used Peppermint 10 on my 13 year old laptop and its great. I'm sort of new to Linux, but I'm savvy enough to at least get the flatpaks on there and use it for gaming on Steam, and content creation... which is all I use my PC for. lol If this nice light distro can do this for me and be super smooth, I'll jump on board.

As to the Thunar or Nemo-- mine had BOTH -- already installed.

I figured out how to install handbrake from the synaptic package manager but I agree with you it’s not that friendly I mean it’s a lot less friendly van opening up a software center in clicking on a category and clicking on a diet on my clicker and install

There’s a whole Lotta playa Carmen stuff in the van the list of things you can install Janka quick on Merrill and open them off and then some of them there’s many choices and I know some on my retirement is the software like transmission is in there yet I am not bad knowledgeable but I’ve seen transmission as a default I’m ready this rose that I played with so I’m assuming that’s the most common one for Darien or it’s just common for everybody

It's been 2 years since Peppermint OS's CEO PCNetSpec (aka Mark Greaves) passed away suddenly. The real tragedy is that it left a family without the companionship of their husband and father.

I don't know how many of the changes reflect the extensive notes which he apparently left behind regarding the direction he wanted peppermint to go. I suspect leaving Ubuntu for a Debian base was something he wanted to do. I also suspect leaving the hybrid desktop of LXDE/Xfce was also in his plans. Now that it's full-on Xfce it will probably simplify maintaining that aspect of the project. And Xfce has grown up a lot in the years since Peppermint OS started. Maybe also the minimalist initial install with choices to add what suits you instead of wasting time uninstalling what you don't want or need.
So who's this version for? My speculation, for what it's worth, is that this release is primarily for people who already use and love Peppermint. I'm among those fans. (I love the rel. 10 respin!) If I can generalize from a sample size of 1 (me), we (me) have grown anxious that maybe rel. 10 respin might be the end of the line. It's happened to other projects. I mean, it's been 2 years. So what I believe is that they said something like, "Look, it's not where we want it to be eventually, but it's to the point where it works well, looks good, and it will give the Peppermint users/fan base something they can use, experiment with, make suggestions about, and see for themselves how much work has gone into the PCNetSpec edition." I think the Peppermint team can be justifiably proud of this edition. It was no mean feat to make all those changes while still keeping that...PeppermintOS feeling.

Is it perfect? Well, no distro is. But it's a beautiful tribute, and I expect many more great things to come from the team. As Montgomery Scott would say, "Aye, she's a bonnie wee ship, laddies. Now let's go see how she handles!" (With apologies to Mr. Scott and all those who can actually write a Scottish vernacular in dialog. To a Star Trek fan, it's a major compliment to allude to Mr. Scott with favorable remarks about an engineering feat [and software engineering counts] ).

Warp speed, ladies and gentlemen. Let's see how she handles.

Hey Matt, what would you prefer to use peppermint or just mint? ;)

Yeah I’ve tried both 64-bit version 10 V 32-bit version by both I mean the version faced right off of Darian and the version based off of devuan which I guess is really just based off of Devion again but it’s way loud dark system D or whatever it is on our system VIP how much smaller event system or watch less bulky and then system is supposed to run faster and lighter

The welcome board "freezes" cause you leave the "release notes" window opened.

You must have accidentally skipped a couple places-- there IS an OPTION to encrypt-- and it DOES do a swap partition.. and that's just so far.. :) I have it installed now- and am tweaking it-- some of it is a bit odd to me.. so hard to do.
I love the zippiness of it- and lack of resources it uses.. instead of gobbling up all my ram etc. and it IS customizable. If I don't like it- I'm going back to LMDE 5 and just customizing it.

Happy to notice they ditch their weird hybrid DE for more pure XFCE, still I find horrible their palette color.

Pray the welcome screen isn’t the only way to get back there I mean it’s available after you click off or close if you can open it back up and get to those software packages don’t know what you would maybe call Victor rated ones I guess without ever looking at is an epic package manager you can still get to a fair selection of software where you can just click and hit install Again though I think cameramen OS originally was meant to be similar to La Romo ass design to use warehouse that’s what ICE is more personally if I want to use all those android apps which I will use a fair number of bill I’m just gonna do it through chrome I mean all you have to do is open up forever Gmail or whatever and create a shortcut and it’ll create an app shortcut that opens up like a window and takes you right into that app but that’s what ICE is for a bank if you don’t want to run chrome

Wow, 439 mb of ram ?! When I used it on my live USB it used litterally more than twice that amount of RAM, and all the tests I've seen had the same issue (around 900> mbs, which is too much)

I'm glad it's still lightweight !

I missed the old Peppermint look and feel. Don't get me wrong, Debian is a good base, and I know that this is a new team/leader with a new direction I'm guessing but I for one am disappointed... No browser, ok I can deal with that. No software store or the Non-Terminal folks not so much. The auto update is like MX does it, launching a terminal to run a script to update. What will a new user think of this?
It is not a polished distro as it once was. No, not living in the past, just 2 years and this is what it is...
See Matt, Virt-manager like you... Lol LOl Lol LOl LOL
Thanks Matt!
