Posting? Back in my day we just carved our comics straight into the cave walls!

Personally, I found success through TikTok and in my opinion the “you should post every day” approach is false. I post like once a month and I still have a very big success. I can give few tips if anyone’s interested but you do have to understand the general audience first. Sometimes when a comic is not doing numbers, is not always the platform’s fault. If your comic is interesting enough and entertaining to the general audience then you don’t have to post 5 times a week, I didn’t even post for 2 months and I got 500k view on my recent post. I recommend to just post whenever you like, it doesn’t matter.

I believe there's something that wasn't discussed and that is, that different websites have different art styles more popular than others. For example, the art that is popular in instagram does not appeal to the people that are on webtoon or tapas. I say this because those sites often have more styled, manga/manhua like drawing, whereas the art that stands out on instagram tends to be more western comic oriented.

It's difficult to know where's the good place to publish stuff... After all, not everything gets picked up by the algorithm.
So far, manually gathering people that like my weird niche stuff seems to be the only method that works for me... It's just not worth it to count on the machine when stuff is just too weird for it to understand what to do with it.

The problem with posting comics on youtube, instagram and tiktok is that those sites are often inconvenient for reading comics, it's more difficult to navigate through different parts and also just to read. I don't know what the best solution would be since webtoon is pretty toxic but i hope you have as much success with your comic as you can wherever you post it!

I think where you went wrong on Tiktok is how you formatted your uploads. Tiktok has its own unspoken rule about formatting (That I've noticed from posting on there a lot) and you basically need to format your comics like it's an animatic instead of just straight posting your pages.

Huh. Youtube Shorts. Never would have thought of that myself. Thanks for the tip, maybe this is the right thing for me.

The era of extremely vertical webcomics in lieu of traditional horizontal manga pages really fucking kills me. I grew up with manga and always wanted to make one. Even now I'm scripting one. But then when I finally get to the point where I can maybe start working on it and posting it, I find out that there's no good place for self-publishing manga if you aren't native japanese. Not only that, but this god-awful vertical comic format made specifically and only for phone screens has made not just reading but also paneling a nightmare. I can't do ANY of my favorite layouts in vertical format. I hate having to constantly scroll to read the damn thing. It didn't even have to be this way, phones have a horizontal view mode. The only places for people like me to post my things to are our own websites or manga/scanlation aggregators like Mangadex. And those aren't intended for self-publishing in the first place. You'll be FIGHTING to get noticed among the slew of new scanlations because there's way more native japanese and korean people making this shit than westerners.

And fucking instagram. Don't even get me started on that shitheap. Yeah, it's got a huge audience, but it's hell to use (or has been for me) and is a security nightmare. It was intended specifically for mobile, just like webtoons, and I hate any website that does that shit.

Like seriously, what am I going to do, post my shit on pixiv? Get like 10 views on the first gallery and then 1 on every other? Not to mention how bad the tagging system is, trying to find anything specific on there is a horrible experience. Still better than deviantart's nonexistent search, though... That's why I stopped posting there, anyways.

I’ve been thinking about creating my comic ok webtoon but the limitations on sizing (I just prefer a bigger canvas and it’s been tripping me up a lot the format isn’t what I’m used to) but I’ve been considering just writing on Instagram and giving a link for a kofi and my commission list, and I think this has helped me think through me options!

Im thinking of starting a legendary story/comic and soon animation, and your video really helped me learn about how the algorithm treats comics and arts, I'm definitely subscribing and here to stay🔥🔥💯.

Stories about red flags in relationships sound like a master-stroke. Entertain, enlighten, and inform. That's the key.😉👍

Thank you so much! I have struggle what to do with my comics. Some are family friendly and others are too mature. I have planning to try tapas but not sure about its rules.

Hmm good breakdown. I’m currently working on a handdrawn scifi/zombie survival comic and I’m trying to figure out the best posting location knowing that I’m mostly in it for the audience interaction and sharing the story I want to tell. Sounds like insta and shorts might be the best options. Already have a small following on YouTube but it’s definitely not art focused so I’m wondering if it’s better to post on Instagram for now. One also heard tumbler can work out well. Any advice on what you’d recommend?
