Your car's mirrors are almost certainly pointing the wrong way.

Like my father used to say, "adjust your mirrors just past where you can see the side of your own car because you can't run into your own car so you don't need to see it in the mirror."
When this is done there are no blind spots.

I learned this tip some years ago when I went to a driving school to get an insurance discount. It really is a big help. I surprised more people don't position them using these techniques.

Learned this when I was "required" to take driving school. Some of the best instructions I've ever received.

This is excellent advice. You can find it on AAA and Car and Driver websites too. The society of automotive engineers published a paper on this on 1995. Very few drivers follow this advice, but blind spot monitoring will reduce the number of accidents caused improper mirror positioning.

Great advice! I see about 99% of friends and family members adjusting their mirrors incorrectly. When you tell them to do it correctly, they don't believe you or blow you off as they are so used to their "wrong" adjustments. This needs to be taught in all driving classes/schools before you can get your permits/licenses.

I look for bad mirror adjustment when people cut me off. Worse than that though, is when people have tons of room to merge but seem afraid to do so. I can always see their faces in their side mirrors, even though I am now directly behind them. They have no idea what is happening around them in traffic, because they've given themselves giant blind spots.

I adjust my mirrors by going to parking lot that's half empty. I adjust the side mirrors until they start covering what the rearview mirror sees on its left and right corners. It gives you a panorama view of to the side and the rear of car and you never lose sight of a vehicle.

For parallel parking and tight corners I use Maxiview blind spot mirrors and use them like the small mirror on busses and trucks. Now I can see cars 3 lanes over when driving _and_ the curb when parking, works great. Should be standard equipment.

What's up with the 360P video? Did Mr. Cooley lose his HD camera?

I usually position my mirrors with the inner edge of the mirror lined up with the edge of the door handle same as your example with just a sliver of car visible in mirror. Gives me a good line of sight for many lanes next to me on either side. Good video though Mr. Cooley

What's going on... where is the next episode?

Unfortunately, this doesn't work in states that allow lane splitting. Another good reason to ban the practice.

If you drive like a normal person these mirror adjustments probably work. If not, future sti and type r owners, you need some of those tiny stick-on blind spot mirrors. You'll thank me later.
