I bought this wok, but I can't wash off the first coating. I've tried everything, nothing works. I've been trying to boil water with dishwashing liquid in it for a few days now, or put it in the dishwasher cube and rub it with a rough cloth, but it won't come off. The wok looks awful, because some of the coating is still there. I think I'll have to throw it in the bin 😕

I have a wok for 20 years. After use I always use mild soapy liquid, clean it out, rinse it, then back onto a high gas ring until all the water has evaporated. I then leave it on high for about 5 minutes until the entire wok has darkened. Finally I oil some kitchen roll and smear the entire inside of the wok then leave to cool.
Hot water is not enough to clean areas where sugary sauces have stuck and the wok will get worse and worse over time.
My wok is always a joy to use, it's a member of the family at this point.
