You’re right! Billie Eilish has a similar cultural significance and impact. And for the naysayers, it’s an analogy (and one made by Dave Grohl no less), the style of music or whether she writes it all herself is irrelevant. She’s playing real music with minimal interference from outside sources…and like Nirvana, she seemingly came out of nowhere and reached the top of the charts, replacing much more manufactured slick pop and hip hop projects made by committee.

One thing for sure. Nirvana was the Nirvana of my generation.

Finneas isn’t just a good producer. But an incredibly talented song writer and musician in his own right. She is the face, and the voice, and an unbelievable talent, absolutely (and a great writer, and visionary). But they are a duo. Classically trained and experienced. And they have their finger on the pulse of the zeitgeist. They compliment each other, and I don’t think they could be where they are without each other.

We are living in times when "no autotune" is worth mentioning

Didn't Thom Yorke also say that Billie Eilish is the only pop star making anything interesting right now? It's high praise from two legends right there: Nirvana and Radiohead.

Every single time I watch ricks videos I pray that my hair line is as good as his at 59. Seriously it’s fucking perfect like what even is that

Finneas has his own music. It is incredible, and has really interesting timing. Billie thinks her brother is a genius. I think this is what saves Billie from the problems others like Kurt have had. She has someone down to earth that she idolizes and it keeps her grounded.

I agree for the positive reasons. But thankfully (I hope) she’ll live to impact music well past 27.

Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas have gained my respect as both musicians and cultural influencers. Nirvana was part of a much larger cultural experience known as the ‘Seattle sound’ or ‘grunge era.’ Many comparisons can be made between musicians that become famous for breaking the current mold. The video in which Billie and Finneas rise from a bed, above a teary eyed audience filled with young people, showcase how deep her music has penetrated into the hearts of her fans. There are no comparisons to be made between Billie’s soft and surreal experience and the aggressive nature of my grunge era memories.

There was this one guy, David Bowie, that changed his image all the time.

I love how Rick finds good things in everything, not just hating things immediately

"Sounds like a real person singing it"
It's shocking but sometimes I think the same way.

I knew Billie was popular from the song Bad Guy, but when I heard "everything i wanted" I really respected her.... She's definitely more than just dumb pop. People like to bag on her for 'whisper vocals' but she's talented enough and skilled enough to do what she does on purpose, she's purposefully holding back and it gives this fragile quality to her sound, when really it's anything but. She's got chops, she holds it back on purpose

I'm guessing that Billie and her brother are also smart enough to understand that Rick talking about their music is a good thing for everyone.

I'm not a Billie Eillish fan, but I can appreciate what she is doing. I think record labels are just trying to turn out disposable content rather than make music. When artists make music, fans take notice. When labels make content, it goes away when the newness has worn off.

Thanks for bringing this stuff to a crowd who appreciates music but wouldn’t have discovered it on their own.

Fun fact: the song “listen before I go” it was written only by Billie (to vent her emotions about her depression) and she produced 80% of that song. You can also see this in her documentary with her mother worried that Billie would release such a depressing song and Billie replied “it's something I feel and I want to talk about, it's something I prefer to write rather than do it (commit suicide), it's much better” …… chills.
THIS IS REAL ART.
Many people don't understand that behind the production the brain is Billie, her brother is the arms, but the mind of her art is HER. Even in production, she decides everything.

The legend Hans Zimmer said he was shocked by her while composing with the orchestra (for the music of the James Bond film with which they won the Oscar) bc he said that they (composers and musicians) were toys in Billie's hands, she had clear ideas of what music was supposed to be like.. so she desided everything, she has an incredible musical instinct. He said he was shocked how a 17/18 year old could have a clear idea of what she wanted to create so well.
Her brother is VERY talent, but in her music BILLIE IS THE REAL GENIUS the mind of her art🔥👏🏻
She is the visionary artist, of all her art is SO UNIQUE… and HER MUSIC VIDEO DIRECTED AND EDITED BY HERSELF ARE MASTERPIECE!!! Literally…. So beautiful, so meaningful and deep. Emotions after emotions. Beautiful.

Btw AMAZING VIDEO REALLY AMAZING!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! 💥
I’m 30 and I’m in LOVE with her. I HATE pop products of the last 10/20 years!! Olny photocopies and products only to sell Morea just hits and marketing ….. THIS IS MUSIC!!! Art ..🔥👏🏻

artists who actually write their own songs, like kurt cobain did, are ultimately going to have a much deeper connection with their audience. kurt also wrote and performed with zero inhibitions whatsoever, and that is why so many people bought into him as an artist and why so many people connected with him.

I didn't jump aboard with her initially just because of the hype. Grammys always have their darlings, but when I listen, there isn't anything to tell me that she doesn't have a wealth of musical ideas that is only increasing with each year. As much as her music draws from its influences, it never seems derivative. I think we are going to find her with us a long time from now.
