When I read the announcement from Ben, I immediately thought that Hodinkee will go to a subscription (paid) model

When HODINKEE destroyed their magazine we all knew the end was near. Who knows what happens next. It’s too late to turn back the LE $5000 clock.

I referenced their reviews when selling some of timepieces, because they did an incredibly good job.
I also bought some pieces after reading their reviews, notably Grand Seikos, Seikos, etc.

Hondinkee literally just did a podcast where they talked about the new Porsche limited edition and how there are more limited editions coming in the near future.

My guess is they are going to go the paywall route. They will lure everyone back in for a 6-months to a year just to get everyone amped up and then BOOM, paywall.

Too late! They already lost the likes or Jack Forster, John Bues and Cole Pennington (thank God James Stacey stuck around.) The new wave of writers wanted to 14-part series on how a newbie buys a watch or what toilet paper I should wipe with while wearing a Chopard. Not to mention they SCREWED the staff at Crown and Caliber when they took over. Hard pass.

Yeah but behind the nice story is probably the fact that the watch craze is dying down so their margins are compressing. Smart move to not be the one holding the bag when the music stops or whatever the expression is.
