I love winter camping. Much better than camping in the other 3 seasons. I mainly do it to collect myself and to get some serenity. It's also fun to do during deer season and have "deer camp". However for winter camping, knowing the basics how to quickly put up a shelter and make fire is a must. This is the one season fire is your best friend! Lol

Great video in both content and presentation format. I've been a few times in the Pine Barrens of NJ and I can attest to what you are saying!

Very informative video for a fairweather backpacker such as myself who is looking into what it takes to transition into winter camping. Nicely done!

I was hypothermic while hiking once and felt chilled wo any shivering and my dexterity was fine. I was slow mentally though. Luckily I was with others who realized I wasn't acting right and helped me out.

I’m interested in getting into winter camping for the reasons of fewer people, quiet, and no insects. Plus it’s more of a challenge which I like. Good video. I appreciate the advice. What is your recommendation for a tent for a beginner? Anything specific to look for in a tent? Do you or people you know use propane or small wood stoves in their tents? With propane heaters I’m concerned about condensation and carbon dioxide build up. Thanks!

Water didn't boil for me, bacon never cooked fully, NEVER set up next to water, and move around. Sitting around the fire won't keep you warm at all, Make sure your boots aren't shoddy because the snow will compact and melt and so on and completely separate the grippy stuff. Also, NEVER EVER camp next to a body of water. Especially a moving body. Seriously, almost had a guy die once.

If your water filter freezes it can become useless. Keep warm like your electronics
