Yesterday was exactly 42 years since St John Paul II was wounded by a priest wielding a knife. This happened during the Pontiff's pilgrimage to Fatima (the evening of May 12th 1982). The attacker, after serving his time in prison, abandonded priesthood.

The event happened, of course, a year after the assassination attempt on John Paul II in St Peter's Square, when a shot fired by a sniper seriously wounded the Pontiff.
