Thank you so much. I completely agree with Patrick M. I'm like... 20 years now it's not worked this way. Why would they change it?

I also am not a fan of how they've switched the (Hold Shift) to auto scale vs not holding shift to allow distortion when Transforming a layer. Maybe there's an easy way to switch this back to "normal" too.

Thank you for this, but I am so frustrated trying to fix another issue, and when I try to search it I only get solutions to this problem.

I'm trying to figure out why when I have a selection made and then try to move a layer, the selection now moves with the layer! This never used to be the case, and it's frustrating. I'm trying to cut a bunch of different rectangles of the same size out of a single image to give them all their own layer. The way I used to do this was to make a marquee rectangle over one part of the image, create new layer from that selection, and then move the image until the selection framed the next part I wanted and did it again. Now I can't do that because the damn marquee rectangle moves WITH the layer and therefore always contains the original image.

I'm doing this in Ps 2023. Is this the problem? So frustrating.

mine in unselected but every time i press the command key (for example, to copy/paste something) it enables the auto-select feature. it's annoying as hell and i cannot find a way to permanently disable it. anyone know?

Auto-select doesn't appear on the top where you showed it. Any ideas how to make it show up? I'd love to have Auto Select.

how do i turn off the fact that it always turns auto-select back on when i'm holding down the ctrl key? god it's fucking annoying. i have to hold down the control key for a billion other reasons, and they choose the control key for THAT? and there's no option to disable it anywhere in the settings or keyboard shortcuts window as far as i can tell. god. if they made the photoshop from 2007 available i would fucking downgrade. i can't stand the "upgrades." photoshop 2020 (and 2019) is unbelievably slow. i have a $9, 000 PC with a threadripper and 1080 Ti and 64GB of 3733mhz ram, and photoshop 2020 runs slower on it than photoshop 7 ran on my powermac G3. so fucking sick of it.
