ABOUT KIM'S CONVENIENCE:
"Kim's Convenience" depicts a Korean Canadian Kim family that runs a convenience store in the Moss Park neighbourhood of Toronto: parents "Appa" (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) and "Umma" (Jean Yoon) – Korean for dad and mom, respectively – along with their daughter Janet (Andrea Bang) and estranged son Jung (Simu Liu). Other characters include Jung's friend and coworker Kimchee (Andrew Phung) and his manager Shannon (Nicole Power). The series is based on Ins Choi's 2011 play of the same name. Mr. and Mrs. Kim have worked hard to give their now-twenty-something children, Janet and Jung, a better life in Canada. This comedy finds laughter in the trials of running a literal 'Mom and Pop' shop while raising kids in a culture not quite your own.

as a Mexican American who grew up with parents who owned a local carneceria, its crazy how much this show resonates with me sometimes. Even the blind hatred! My parents would talk so much smack about Salvadorans.
Maaaan were they upset when my older sister ended up marrying one lol

I didn’t really appreciate how this scene was originally in the play this was based on… It’s always nice seeing the source material in the show.

Hahaha my grandpa was the same way.

Us: “haraboji, we all got money together and bought you a new 75” inch flat screen for your birthday! You like it?”

Grandpa: “EE-ghe Moosoon gishiya!!!! Ghuh sureaghee ghata budyu!!!! Nin edul mitchyusuh???!”

Translation: “what the hell is this! Throw that trash away! Have you gone crazy???!”

As an American that worked in Korea and Japan. Would tell the Japanese I loved Korea for the time I worked there. Japanese younger and older do regret what happened. All they ask is to respect their ancestors. They honor their war veterans not because of the evil but because they are their ancestors. This is the way the Japanese describe it to me. Koreans honor ancestors as well! Hope peace between the two peoples!

If we stopped giving money to companies that F!@#$ us over. They would have to change their ways. Many of us still bank with companies that made the 2008 market crash. Buy gasoline from BP gas stations that destroyed the Gulf Coast ecosystem. Invest in mutual funds ran by the same hedge funds that buy out new houses and rent to you 160% of what a mortgage would cost you.
Calamities and Lessons happen in cycles because we constantly forget pain.

I'm not surprised if a elderly filipino said "1941 when Japan attacks Philippines". Hahaha

My late father was a WW2 veteran. If I had driven a Japanese-made car into his driveway, he would have forced me to move it. That’s one reason I drove Fords although Toyota makes a better car.

Now, was my father (and this TV father) thinking correctly? No. But history weighs heavy on some people.
