I'm currently making a 1880s-1890s corset to support my back and bust, i hate wearing bras, not matter what type or size they are uncomfortable and ruin my digestion whilst eating. I use your videos to help me with this sewing journey, thanks Katherine!

I can't believe this! I was reexamining TODAY if I should try corsets for my posture and anxiety and then THIS pops up. Thank you for the great video - especially showing us the range of motion available as you lifted weights, great educational content.

From my personal experience, corsets are a game changer. I have scoliosis in my lumbar spine. It created a lot of pressure and I can sometimes get very severe back spasms. 15 years go, I showed up to my doctor's office looking like a bent over, twisted question mark due to extreme spasms. My doctor recommended a combination of massage therapy and having a custom corset fitted to me (standard orthopedic back braces are too rigid to accommodate my asymmetry). Since then, I have worn corsets whenever I feel the need to extra support, or even just because I want o. I have also learned to make my own corsets.

Wearing a properly fitted corset (mine is modelled after a late 1880s style) provides instant relief on days when I would otherwise not be able to bend over to even put socks on. The way a corset works is that is distributes the weight of your chest and upper body more evenly through your hips, and gives over-worked muscles time to relax and recover by providing gentle support. Wearing a corset can also improve posture by instilling muscle memory. It is uncomfortable to slouch in a corset. When I wear my corsets, I will engage the core muscles required to sit or stand straighter: and over time, this has helped improve my posture. In terms of modern fashion, I have found them to be far more comfortable and wearable than modern shapewear which squeezes you like a sausage in all directions.

As a historical reenactor, corsets are one of the topics that come up all the time. I spend more hours dispelling the idea that corsets "disfigure" bodies, are torture devices meant for the male gaze, or that they cause weakness in muscles, than in talking about any other article of clothing. A corset, properly fitted, should never feel as though it is cutting you off anywhere. They fit at the waist and flare out over the hips, ribs and bust to provide gentle support. They free your upper back and neck for the burden of carrying the weigh of the breasts on two thin straps over your shoulders and they help maintain posture, thereby easing back pain. To create the fashionable silhouettes, pads are used where nature is lacking.

Visitors are also often shocked when I tell them that historically men wore corsets, too! Usually it was for back support or other medical reasons, but there was corsetry in the world of men's fashion as well during the 19th century!

I signed up and sent it to my friends. OK, I’m totally convinced that I should be wearing a corset. I did actually end up doing the belly binding you videoed about after my fourth baby because I hadn’t heard of it before then and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for all your content. I stopped using shampoo in my hair a long time ago, using your clay protocol and its waist long. I can’t imagine going back to shampoo.

There is actually a lot of sense to this. As an older post menopausal woman in my 70’s, who had 5 children, even after my pregnancies, I had a very flat stomach for many years, until after menopause. No my stomach muscles are not what they used to be, and the back pain is unbearable.

I totally agree, having back pain for 20+ years. It's something I NEED to force myself to start doing, especially for support, reminder of careful movements, and the eating part. I'm sure it'll totally help, and I'll try hard to factor it in my life. I need to find the right fit. Let me move to your video...thanks! 👍💖

For about 4 months now I'm also actually wearing a corset almost daily, inspired from your first video about the benefits of corsets. And I was absolutely surprised, how good it starts feeling after a while. Unfortunately, I have just one "from the rack" "fashion piece" corset, that fits not perfectly and has steel boning. However, even with that I have already been able to benefit from the advantages. I can just imagine, how well it will doing with a costum fit bespoke corset. That is my next planned purchase. Thats for sure.

Thank you so much for your content. Your video came exactly at the right time, since my osteopath mentioned last week, that wearing a corset would weaken my back muscles. And honestly, that has planted a little seed of doubt. But your new video has re-encouraged me again and busted that doubt. Because who could know better than a person, who is wearing corsets on a daily basis for years? I also don't fell that my back is getting weak, doing yoga and dancing regularly.

Long story short... just wanted to say thank you... ♥

I definitely think I would benefit from the emotional grounding properties. I frequently sleep with a stuffed animal on my chest when I have overwhelming anxiety. When i cuddle my family on the couch i ask my children or husband to “rest on my chest” like when my kids were babies and we snuggled that way because it gives me a sense of well-being. And many times during the day especially around the full moon i feel too “scattered” for lack of a better term and hug myself or ask for hugs. I find myself wishing i had a belt or corset to “hug” me and make me feel like someone is walking beside me with their arm around me. Really it would be me loving myself by taking care of that need of mine with a corset❤

I've been in love with corsets since I was a teen but only really started getting into them in my late 20s. I've had trouble with OTR corsets and have started trying to make my own. It's definitely a challenge especially for a novice artist like me! But I enjoy it and I love the feeling of wearing a corset. I've got to work on several fixes to my corset pattern and remake it

Corsets are a sensory nightmare for me but I do find them beautiful.

ooh I love this! I loved the feeling of support that I got from baby wearing with wraps and have often thought about how to get that feeling but hadn't considered a corset. I think I might have to. Thank you

Interesting timing. I, just last night, was.thinking about wearing a corset. I may have to move forward with this.
I do not want to wear bras any longer.

When my back gets to hurting, I put on a corset, and the pain mostly goes away.

Autistic folks also enjoy pressure, and I've read and saw that some actually enjoy wearing a corset because of that. It helps them feel less anxious and can feel more comfortable than tight clothes. Im thinking about mailing one for myself thanks to your videos

I had a neck injury some years ago and the PT told me good posture would be his #1 treatment. I figured I’d try a corset and it actually worked! I love wearing a corset, they have improved my posture even when not wearing one. My only problem is if I’m going to be on a car ride with my husband. He has a herky-jerky driving style that makes being in a corset uncomfortable for me

I’ve always loved the style that a corset lends. Rewatching Poldark in uk and love the garments that ladies of the time wore. Have signed up for your offer from Craftsy, thank you for that. Can’t wait to try making a corset….and lots of other great crafty things. 😊 xx
