“You don’t want to think too hard about what you’re actually reading” I’ll be saying this to everyone who asks why I don’t like her books from now on

Colleen Hoover is protaying abusive realitionships in her books and planting wrong ideas in the heads of her young fans

I actually hated the book! I felt like all were very cliche characters, and everything is about money, how handsome he is and the great sex they have, come on! I read it rolling my eyes the entire time...

Colleen Hoover is horrific and misogynistic and I will stand by that. She writes scenes of sexual assault that are meant to be cute, her entire books are based on men being toxic and abusive towards women and them getting together in the end anyway because "they're destined for each other" and she uses homophobic throw-away lines like it's her place to do so.

I have never read a single book by her, but my best friend who reads all the time and has no issue with any and all genres, walked up to me after only reading 50 pages of Ugly Love and said, "It's disgusting." I knew it was serious because she was using her soft voice. "It's actually disgusting." She never says that about anything or anyone. She is the sweetest most wholesome person I know, and for a book to elicit that reaction meant it was bad. So I did some research on Colleen's books and I am so glad I have never read one before

Exactly!! I swear these books are EVERYWHERE in school. I think it ends with us is okay but nothing that good. I can't even compare it with song of Achilles lol

Never read anything by her, but I lost it when one of my classmates compared the story of "it ends with us" to a Shakespeare play we were discussing. We were talking about how women back then had little to no chance of leaving abusive relationships because they often weren't allowed to work or own property. And then that girl raises her hand and asks why the woman in the play can't just do what the character in the book is doing.

her eldest son also allegedly SA'ed a minor and colleen hoover tried to cover it up, only trying to salvage her own reputation

Colleen Hoover is for women in their 30s-50s who never got the privilege of a wattpad phase

I think her writing style is the biggest reason why people like her books i am not a big fan of her and i am half through hopeless tbh its not the best but also not that bad. Just a generic book.

I won’t ever read Colleen Hoover books, not interested and what I’ve heard about what they contain, the people who red it(the younger age range that shouldn’t read it because of what they contain!), and how the author as a person(I’ve heard bad stuff about her as a problematic author).
Another author that’s popular that everyone likes or loves and I don’t like is Holly Black, I tried the cruel prince series and I gave it two stars…I hated the characters but liked the world.

For a woman, she seems to really hate women?

I personally loved it ends with us. It reminds me so much of what my mother went through. Everyone says that Hoover is portraying abuse as an aesthetic? I must be blind but I don’t see any of that. She is showing her past in a book. Such art!

They're fun schlock as long as you can recognize they're schlock. The junk food of reading if you will

My mom's friend who reads mostly smut gifted me "Hopeless" by Colleen Hoover since it's her favorite and she knows I read a ton. I read one page out loud to my husband and we were making fun of how awful it was, and after I finally read about 50 pages I looked at him and said "wow, this is a dumpster fire"
