7:41 If I may, here's what I have learnt as an amateur, so far: the bootspace in every vehichle is first limited by payload capacity of the vehichle in kg. The volume in litres is also important, but only after payload capacity.

For example, with 5 people and their luggage for a week, does the Thar Roxx stay within payload capacity? If not, then you can take 3 or 4 people only with 1 week of luggage. And that will mean that you have space for storage in 1 or 2 seats in the back row.

The reason for looking at the payload capacities is safety.

Then there's the matter of maximum weight allowed per axle by percentage of payload capacity—does the filled boot meet those requirements of the back axle? If not, you have re-balance luggage between back axle and front axle, meaning you have to move luggage to the front.

Simple technical parameters and measures such as this matters in evaluating, it makes it objective and safer.

When I tried looking up the payload capacity of another Mahindra, I think it was the Bolero Neo, all I got online was instructions to check with the showroom or workshop. I found this discouraging. I could easily find this data for any Suzukis when I searched for it.

We have two of the 5-door Jimnys, and I didn't fit a roof-rack on it for this same reason—the roof payload capacity (I think while the car is driven) is only 30 kg (including the weight of the rack), while the total payload capacity of the car, including whatever is on the roof and all after-market fitments is 335 kg. It is easy to hit 335 kg with two people like you and me (I am 183.5 cm tall and weigh 111 kg, clinically obese) and two small 50 to 60 kg people with perhaps upto 15 kg of luggage including all after market fitments. So, a roof rack only makes sense if you want to carry something like a bicycle, or dirty or soiled or smelly items outside the cabin, on the roof.

Unfortunately, no one I have seen from India is discussing this adequately.

And don't get me started on modificaitons! So far, I have found only one Australian channel who actually gets his modified cars re-certified by the authorities with a fresh specifications plate with new capacities riveted to the body, including to a Jimny in one of his videos, in order to make it road-legal. I haven't seen this in India and that's sad.

Also, I was talking to Nexa last week—they did confirm what the manual says, that upsizing the tyres negatively impacts the dynamics and movement of the vehichle in many ways for very little benefit, and they get vehichle with complaints.

Ax5l or ax7l diesel automatic 2wd are the best variants.
Petrol doesn't make sense being single digit mileage city 7kmpl max highway 11 kmpl max.
Diesel manual gearbox is notchy.
Hence diesel automatic 2wd makes the most sense

Since you plan to use the car for city? Aren’t you concerned about the unsettled ride on low speeds? Will it be any better with 18 inch wheels?

Can you also tell us the reasons why you choose it over Scorpio-N ?

How does the brown one look to naked eyes? I am planning for the rwd ax7l. And how will you grade the 7 colours as per their road presence??

What happens to that sunroof if on an adventure trip that car topples; how will it impact the people inside?

Since you mentioned longevity—brands from which country are known for longevity while quality is maintained? 🙂

As I see it, Mahindra's design philosophy seems to be populist sentiment driven sales as opposed to detailed and deep thinking with a ruler and measurement instruments and practical fit with long-lasting quality driven sales. Details and accuracy is a big Japanese cultural value system which, in my perspective, is seen in their design philosophy as well.

My dad's Maruti Omni is 40 years old (and still street-legal, RTO certified).

I would still suggest you to go with Scorpio N as family car as compared to ROXX.
