Great advice!!! Most people who perform magic won't do it or maybe they will but they don't know why it works!!! 👌

Hey Chris awesome video man. The psychological aspect of magic I think is more of an impact to the spectator than the trick itself at times. The way a person is approached really makes the experience that much more special. I worked in a mental health hospital where people where hostile and the environment was depressing . I remember doing little self working tricks for some of the residents there and it almost always made their day a whole lot better. Taking those 40 seconds made a world of difference to those people psychologically the focus was completely on them. Thus they felt very meaningful something I guess the world doesn't normally show them on a daily. Even messing tricks up they still enjoyed them and every time they were down and out they would ask to see something as silly as it was it was truly magical in their life. Awesome vid once again keep up the good work im hooked on this channel

I ABSOLUTELY support your ideas!
Giving advice to others THAT way, is something that not a lot of people on YOUTUBE are doing.Advising new member that have just started magic is a MUST!
This will help them start developing their own criteria and ideas that can REALLY help them improve themselves!!! And YOU have succeeded that, YOU have influenced soo many new magicians out there to step up the game!!! People can TRUST YOU!!! And trust creates a bond, which can not break...The bond that YOU and everyone else has HERE is something special, something that only you and everyone else here can understand!!!
I hope you read this open message to You and everyone!! YOU have not only improve yourself but all of us! SO THANK YOU❤ FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS😊

Another excelent one is Darwin Ortiz's "Strong Magic". Simply the best book for magic theory.

I re-watch this video every now and then. It is such a good reminder about a lot of the subtleties we tend to forget about as we learn more .

One of the best tips you'll get about magic. This is why I love your videos, any magician can teach you some tricks or sleight off hands, but Chris will show you the HOW & WHY you really do it. Keep up the good work!

This is wonderful advice I would love to see some more on the subtleties and psychology of magic! This is exactly what is so often ignored especially on YouTube where the focus is so heavily on the tricks and methods. The subtleties that can turn a simple trick into an impossible miracle is left by the wayside. This is precisely what I have been looking for I have seen some online discussions where these kinds of ideas are mentioned in reference to books like Strong magic and Designing miracles by Darwin Ortiz but this is often sadly lacking in the youtube-verse. Thank you for this, I look forward to maybe finally fooling someone with a coin vanish :) Keep it coming :)

I've learnt so much from your channel man, but I sincerely think that this little bit of advice is so useful and possibly more important than anything else I've learnt when it comes to performing magic

Managed to get to see Derren Brown live, and levitated me on stange, an incredible experience, , especially for such a fan. And i'm loving your work Chris, would you release a tv special?

Hey Chris, found your channel about a month ago. I've never liked magic very much, but I don't know why I can't stop watching your videos, you gave me a new perspective on magic and I thank you very much for that. Btw, I just bought my first deck of cards today :)

I've just started learning magic and I didn't know a single card handling technique before watching your tutorials, yet I think this is the most valuable lesson I've seen so far. Great insight!

Man, this is the kind of videos I love, this channel is perfect: simple tutorials, funny videos, good performances and THEORY ;) the example of the coin vanish is also on Tamariz's book "The magic way", where the master explains all the subtleties you've gone through, in more detail of course :) keep it up Chris, love you and your work.

I have noticed that even a few seconds between a DL being turned face down and putting the card in the center of the deck makes a huge difference as well. ambitious card is a GREAT trick that most all magicians do some form of, and it has so much room for this advice in it. great way of thinking.

I got "tricks of the mind" from a friend who doesn`t even do magic just as i started beeing interested in cards. Now after some years I can tell you it was the most important book on magic I ever read. It`s like an overview but with indepth information about that "whats really going on"... hard to describe it correctly for me as an german guy. I would highly recommend buying this book!
Just some weeks ago i sat on a table and didn`t even have cards with me. Someone asked for some magic and I exactly did that coin vanish routine with beer bottle cups. It blew them away.

I gotta check out that book. You're breakdown of the best advice ever was the best advice ever. Knowing the psychology part of magic can really bring it up a notch. Even the hobbiest could almost come off as professional, just with that depth. Steady pacing and layers. So damn cool!

One of the best psychological touches considers people's beliefs. Let me give an example. If you just vanish a coin, most of the people will take a logical approach and try to work it out with logic and what they see. But if you challenge their beliefs or just put a bit of doubt in it, it will linger in their mind after the trick is done, so basically the trick will last even after it's done.
We want to guide them how to think about the trick and the possibilities how it's done. Show some breadcrumbs of how the trick is possible to be done.
Let's apply it to this coin trick: We will say before the trick is done: "Did you ever head that moment when you are looking and searching for your keys but just can't see them, and they are before your eyes, also did you know that our eyes have a blind spot?" And then do the trick (with mistake :) ). After this they will think is it possible that you exploit their blind spot, or how is it that something is here in front of their eyes and they didn't see it. They will not use logic part of the mind but will contemplate on the possibilities that you guided them to. And that is beautiful because your are giving them a meaningful experience. Try it and let me know how much it changed how the trick is perceived.
