To summarize, repeated epoxy exposure causes her to have serious respiratory issues and weakness. Wear a respirator and gloves folks.

As someone that is a chemical safety professional for 10+ years, it makes me extremely sad and angry that people are being exposed and not knowing how dangerous it really is. Craft stores and classes should be starting with this information and making sure people are safe before starting. I hope everyone hears your message. Wishing you a full recovery on your healing journey.

tbh Evan and Katelyn are the only content creators I've seen that regularly use the full respirator set up for when they're doing things with resin, which that alone I think goes a long way in sending the message to viewers that you shouldn't be messing with resin without the proper safety equipment

I’m appalled at all the “you should’ve known better”, “common sense”, etc. comments. As she said, and as I too know as someone who has been researching off/on doing epoxy crafts... we’ve seen practically EVERY video without a warning. Without a mask. I’m thankful this girl was even kind enough to come on here and speak out on her experience. Blessings to you. Hope you’re stYing safe, especially during these times.

This should be one of the first videos that appear when researching epoxy

This was the first video that came up when I typed in epoxy jewelry how to. I’m so grateful for this. I spent years in the printing industry and was around toxic substances. When I first started working the signs on the chemicals said “may be hazardous” as I continued to work the warnings changed and then there was the poison skull. I was 35. My mother had cancer. I realized I had to get out of the industry and was able to go back to school and retrain for a new career. Fifteen years later I got cancer. Had chemo, surgery and radiation. It’s a miracle I’m still alive. Nothing is more important than our health. We can’t go back and only move forward and educate and empower others. Your contribution here is beyond fantastic. Im so sorry for the price you are paying. I get it. Im paying with you. One day at a time. Much love to you and thank you again. ❤

When I started playing around with resin casting, I was lucky enough to have been coached by a guy who had done resin casting for decades. He always stressed the importance of ventilation and protection. Unfortunately the reason he stressed safety to me is that he never took those precautions himself during those previous decades and he was terminally ill, and he didn’t want someone else to make the same mistake he had made. I didn’t know he was Sick until he passed away.
I am grateful he stressed safety to me, and I applaud you for warning others about the dangers of resin casting.

To be honest I do resin and haven’t been following the instructions and haven’t been protecting myself at all, I’m just glad I found this video before anything bad happened.

My daughter and I just did a resin project today with a kit from Hobby Lobby. What the box said was “non-toxic.” The directions said do it in a well ventilated space. And you’re right—I was expecting a strong odor and there was NONE.

Wow. So glad I just saw this. Thank you for sharing this…it was one time without PPE and never again indoors. I hope you feel better soon.

I'm literally searching epoxy jewelry how to, and this video [ops up. WOW! Thank you, I had no idea and will continue watching videos in regards to chemical safety. I imagine you have stopped many people from harm by making this video. Bless you! Hope you're all better now 😊🎉

Years ago, when I was in art school, I had a classmate who made little doll house environments embedded in resin. She never used respirators nor worked in a well-ventilated space. One day she suffered a severe allergic reaction to the catalyst and resin. She was hospitalized and ended up in a coma for several weeks. Years later while working in the screen-printing industry, one of my bosses used to do stencil painting with spray guns and airbrushes on trucks and other vehicles. Again, no respirator nor concern about breathing the particles and thinners. He died of kidney cancer at age 35. All of this stuff is risky if not used properly and taking protective precautions. Even some of the heavy metals used in watercolors, acrylics and oils can be dangerous if mishandled.

Also when you're thinking about this don't forget about your pets. A lot of people allow their pets into their Craft space when working with epoxy. Do not allow your pets into your Craft space with any curing epoxy.

Moral of the story: always wear protective equipment whether you're working with epoxy, wood, glass, spray paint, etc including gloves, a mask, and goggles!
