How Dangerous Is Your Epoxy Resin?

If you've ever used resin, or are thinking of using it in the future, this is information you can't live without.

Here it is, the honest truth:
most epoxy resins on the market are really bad for you.

Do you actually know if the resin you’re using can cause cancer?
Reproductive harm or respiratory distress?
Do you know if it’s corrosive or not?
How can you tell which resins are safe and which are dangerous?
And just how dangerous are they?

The Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is where you'll find the important information you need in order to stay safe.

ArtResin co-founder Rebecca Zak is here to teach you how to be a smart resin consumer. She is going to show you how to interpret a safety data sheet, what to look for, and how to spot the red flags.

This information could literally save your life.

For more information on our safety certification and to read our SDS, please see our blog How Dangerous Is Your Epoxy Resin?

Although there are no VOC’s (the resin I use also doesn’t have VOCs), that doesn’t mean that no harmful fumes are emitted. Some people can, and do, react to them. Wearing a respirator is always a good idea. Everyone is different and it’s still recommended to wear a NIOSH approved respirator.

I just ordered 2 gallons of your resin. The one I used from Amazon gave me some wicked chemical burns. I knew to wear gloves and I was in a hurry. That’ll never happen again. Always wear your gloves and ventilator masks. That’s something I’ll never take for granted again.

I started using epoxy resin for the first time about a month ago...I won't name the brand but it said that it had zero VOCs & low odor - so I thought that it would be safe to use...but I was mistaken! I used the epoxy (while wearing a 3M mask) and after I was done pouring the epoxy on a table top that I had made I found it difficult to breathe (for about 2 days). I had purchased 2 gallons of that epoxy and had lots left over but after that experience I gave it away...My health was more important. I decided to do some research for a safer option and that's how I found out about the ArtResin brand. So I purchased 2 gallons of Art Resin and used it...I wore a mask to be safe and I was happy that the table came out amazing, and more importantly I could breathe properly! This had no effect on my lungs...I will still continue to wear a mask with this resin, and it was also more expensive than the original epoxy that I purchased but I really don't care, my health is more important.

Thank you for your transparency and telling viewers what to look for. Being able to read a SDS is very important. Something most don’t know how to do. Education is key.

I really appreciate the honesty in this video, especially since it has to do with staying safe and healthy while working with resin. I was unaware of a lot of this information as it pertains to resin, but now I know better and can keep myself and my family safe. Thank you for taking the time to share this information, it truly means a lot!

Thank you. It is also worth noting the manufacturers are legally required by CLP (Europe) and GHS (US) to put the full hazard information on the packaging (pictograms, warning, precautions etc.).

This video has really opened my eyes
I can really tell you are not just trying to push your product on to people by saying "everyone else's resin is bad and toxic but ours is good"
So many people have no idea that resin can be very very hazardous and they just see it as another lil arts and crafts thing
And it really helped me get just how bad the risks our so thank you so much.
This video truly may have saved some lifes.

Thank you so much for the video. After seeing some videos, I decided recently to give resin jewelry a try. The only reason I even realized that it required use of a respirator, gloves, etc., is that I ran by accident on a video of a crafter who got sick from it (as in really, really sick). All the detail you provide here, convinced me to return a product advertised as safe. It referred to SDS which were nowhere to be found, or at least I could not after much searching. I tried another, that had the info, and did not seem as bad, still took all the protections, only taking the mask off for a short time and, well, I can tell I have a faint headache. So, this is crazy and will totally give your product a try. Really, wow, no words.

When I first started this, I didn't know, I'm now struggling with respiratory illnesses. I have a friend that worked in large amounts of resin...he recently died of cancer. Glad I found you guys. Amazon should be ashamed of the Chinese sellers they aren't regulating.

People need to understand everybody’s BODY reacts differently to chemicals.
If you want to google each individual chemical on the SDS and decide if you want to use a particular epoxy

Why should such dangerous resin be legal...? If it is cancer causing, and deadly... Why... It's that illegal ?

Very informative. All the scare info I have seen lately regarding resin has really kept me from diving into the epoxy world (I love fast casting for furniture embellishments) so this was good info. Thank you for your candor.

A N95 particulate mask is NOT a respirator. A respirator has a chemical cartridge filled with activated carbon to filter out gaseous or vapor contaminants, or a separate oxygen supply
