Reality vs. perception

One of the many aspects of reputation deals with how others perceive you. This can be summarized as your overall character,  or how you actually are combined with your reputation, which is how others think you are.
One is objective, the other subjective. The character of a person is different than his or her reputation, and this holds true for brands as well.

When people trust you or your brand, they are more likely to recommend you to friends, repeat business with you, and can even forgive mishaps or scandals.

Legitimate debate has been absent from the US political stage for a couple of decades, at least. Unlike senior schools English classes in other countries, rhetoric and critical thinking isn't taught at US schools today. There is no parliamentary-style rapid debate in Congress to hone argument and counter argument. At my youngest, 15-yr old son's school in UK recently, he was tasked to argue the case diametrically opposite the one he actually holds. This was a valuable lesson in the skills of good argument.
