Thank you Mr Rambo. This is extremely helpful for newbies like me (plus the mentality of appreciating older viable machines will win people over I guarantee). Many golden tidbits especially the looking for laptops for professionals

brother cheap is the way. I got a 1080p IPS chromebook in barely used condition for 25 dollars. It has a 5150u i3, also an sd card slot but the real kicker... removable/replaceable sata storage. Biggest tech win I've ever bought for 25 bucks. Screen 0 scratches, little to no wear, and on a linux buiild without system D it boots in 10 seconds and logins in 2. Unreal lmao
edit: also had 92% original battery health! Machine was rated new to get 5 hours but I'm getting 6 hours w/ tlp installed on Linux as it smartly downclocks and sips the power.

Have managed to buy Thinkpad L490s with 11th gen i3s for like $50 still on lenovo warranty on multiple occasions now, nothing like people selling away their high school laptops

i have a pretty decent gaming laptop, but these vids give me the urge to go and buy one cheaply just because of how good the deal is. (granted i'd have to put the damn thing together too, and im a software guy, not a hardware guy.)

You know anything about Panasonic toughbooks? Been thinking about getting one or two. They have insane battery life, which I'm a fan of. And of course build quality. I always wanted to get an IBM era thinkpad, but their terrible battery life puts me off.

Specifically was looking at the CF-31 and CF-53 models. Those two models share the same battery, so would make a great pair. Both discontinued, the CF-31 last longer. Like the thinkpads, they switched from an older style of keyboard to newer at some point. I wonder if you could take the classic keyboard from earlier CF-31 models and stick it on newer CF-31 models.
