Kinison was banned from NBC after his 3rd SNL appearance. He went against the directions of the censorship crew and talked about drugs and religion on live TV which caused NBC to ban him. Immediately after being banned, NBC received countless letters from their viewers demanding Sam to come back. Lorne finally swallowed his pride and called Sam and had him come back with Dana Carvey introducing the 4th appearance(this video). RIP Sam, you are my favorite comedian and wish you were still here.

Sam Kinison was killed when an underage drunk driver crossed the double yellow line. The teen survived, spent a short time in prison, and is about 50 now. Tragic. I loved his, “Are You Lonesome Tonight?” routine on Johnny Carson! 😆

Wow, what a trip~ I only just saw SNL's Church Lady skits for the first time last week. I assumed they were pretty recently filmed, like maybe five years ago. Then when I saw the title to this one, I wondered why a recent show would mention Mr. Kinison, then, BAM, Sam's in the shot… turns out these skits are over twenty years old. I'd never have thought it just to watch them. They seem wholly current. Then that second when Sam Kinison was seemingly brought back to life was just magical.

Sam was definitely given a raw deal in life. He may have given up being a preacher but he still believed in God and I'm sure and hope his heavenly father took him home.
