Having a degree is just window dressing for Airline companies, degrees will not teach you to fly the plane any better than someone who already has good flying abilities.

I only clicked on this video because I saw you recorded it while flying...I have finally found out what pilots are up to during flights inside those cockpits!

In a few years the majors are going to have to drop the degree requirement.

Another fine video, Scott! Always enjoy them. You exemplify what a captain should be like "Tell it like it is"

Captain Scott is right, you absolutely do not need a degree to become a pilot....fact. But the important thing he does mention is that the jobs that usually require the degree provide stability in a volatile industry.

Thanks for this video. You spoke about things other pilots will not tell you. All i hear is dont do flying, waste of time. Unless i wish to fly for my self and stick with the sammler cessna's

I am an Embry Riddle student, but I'm in the process of transferring. I am a veteran using my GI Bill, but I am having to cover part of my flight cost out of pocket. I feel the quality of education just isn't present at Riddle has it had been when it gained it's reputation. They are more focused on larger classes, greater profits, and becoming an NCAA school. Their experienced pilots have flown the coupe leaving them with just the current students and recent graduates that are cannibalizing their students for hours. There is no interest in the welfare of the students, just everyone out for them self. School departments don't talk with each other (flight, aeronautics, UAV, ATC, AMS) and their requirements have lost relevance. Internal politics are overwhelming the interest in education. I would strongly recommend evaluating other options before deciding ERAU is the end all, be all; especially for veteran students.

Awesome video from the cockpit!
Man, every single person I have talked to in aviation is so nice! Another nice person freely telling me about aviation. Thanks a ton, a lot of info in this video!

94' was my first flying job towing gliders & banners with 350hrs TT. Flew in with a borrowed Pacer, talked to the man, next week showed up for OJT in a Super Cub then Citabrias & Pawnee's. Put in a thousand hours towing (after a few months towing gliders, banner brief was a 15 min. description of what to do and log book entry, did a demo pickup, circuit & drop. Next was for revenue). Fun job-low money. Towed else where just by walking in, always in demand.
Make more money, better hours & enviroment driving a truck, self managed. Post 2001 & economy crash, the fun really has been sucked out of aviation.

Ya, and I'm still trying to figure out where the Learjet hospital is. It get's so old after awhile hearing the, "you don't have any experience in the plane so we can't hire you." I must have been told that at least a hundred times over the course of my career. But! I did get one guy back when he asked if I could help him get a job flying the 747's Of course I told him it's a very, very, difficult airplane to fly and you really need to have some time in 747's before I can help you out.

Thank you for sharing that knowledge.  I have seen a lot of disgruntled newbie pilots that had visions of grandeur and only to get slapped in the face with reality.  Experience and hours count.  The more you have the better your chances for living the dream.  Thank goodness you are back on YouTube with great videos.

LMAO!!🤣🤣🤣 loved your statement about the No experience response. Was he born flying that airplane ✈. Believe me I can relate to that . I'm a Truck 🚚 driver, Been driving for over 30 something years, and I can remember that same thing about the experience. My thing is how do you get experience in anything if nobody gives you a chance lol. Of course the only way is to find a entry-level company, or know somebody that knows somebody, that's how we had to do it. By the way I love your videos on Aviation! Believe me I wish I had become a pilot, although Trucking has been good to me, I always had a thing For Airplanes and Aviation. I even took Flying lessons myself but never finished up due to family obligations. With your Videos you truly inspire me to want to go back and finish up . Thank you again, and Keep up the fantastic 👏 Videos!!

To answer your question I know a couple of banner pilots. I do not know what they make for salary, but it is a way of building flight time and any private pilot can do it. The idea is that you are not hauling any people and a banner is not considered cargo so a commercial license is not required. To pick up the banner the plane has a hook on the bottom like a navy aircraft and the banner has a large fabric loop... he flys over that to pick up the banner and disconnects it prior to landing. There is a company at the airport who does that as well as a skydive operation with several turbine aircraft, gliders and a small flight school. So it doesn't really matter who you know at all times, but how active the airport you are close to is.
