STO LAT: How to sing Happy Birthday in Polish

preview_player
Показать описание
Learn how to sing Sto Lat (Happy Birthday), what it actually means, and how to properly wish someone birthday wishes in spoken word, not just in song.
PS: I sing acapella.

Edit: In the video I say that "z okazji" means in "in honor of."
"In occasion of" is actually a better translation of that statement.

Sto Lat Lyrics
Sto lat, sto lat, niech zyje zyje nam.
Sto lat, sto lat, niech zyje zyje nam.
Jeszcze raz, jeszcze raz, niech zyje, zyje nam.
Niech zyje nam!

Birthday Wishes in Polish
-Wszystkiego najlepszego z okazji urodzin.
-Dużo zdrowia, szczęścia i pomyślności.

I grew up hearing my Father and Grandparents speak Polish and they always sang this. They were from Nisko. They're all gone now but this brought back so many memories. I'm going to learn it to sing to my kids. God Bless!

Thank you so much for the great lesson in sto lat.70 years old and the first time I focused on the meaning which means so much more now than when I was young. Thank you for the memories of my family and my parents.

Thank you!! I was born in Germany, my parents, my older sister and all family were born in poland.. (and PLUS Oberschlesien!) ... i don't understand everything.. never got teached full (no reading, no writing, neccessary vocabular ONLY!)
On marriage of my cousins the song was playing, i didn't know, there is MORE LYRIC 😱 I have been out with that.. sadly.. so i just sang "sto lat..." 😅

And still i get wishes from my aunt and cousin, and i never understand 100% what they talk about... 😭
But i am really HAPPY they sing in a Voicemail for me.. it is my another home"the place where you came from"-blood 🤗❤😘

Thank you for your channel, it’s very interesting. Sto Lat was sung to me on my birthday by a special person to me and I am going to sing it to her on her birthday coming up!

Funny, my uncle taught me this song. Even though he spoke some Polish, he told me that it basically a kind of the song to your good health and well being, and not a birthday song. Either, way, it is probably the most Polish that I know! Dziękuję!

Grew up with my polish family singing this every birthday! It was always weird to be at a birthday party and not hearing it

I think Ewelina did this couple of weeks ago with the Polish birthday song. Good repetition for me but those wishes were new for me and very helpful. I will try that soon!!! Thanks 😀

Haha I love how you didn't know right away what pomyślności meant in English. That kind of thing happens to me all the time. Like, just the other month I finally learned what Błogosławiony/Błogosławiona is in English = Blessed!

D'uh! No wonder I always heard that word in Church. Lol.

And I'm 35. Lol

My Mom was Polish-American. The Polish language is beautiful but somewhat hard to learn. I like the way you pronounce the words but I wish you would keep the spellings on longer. Dzienkuje bardzo?

Is it your birthday? I am very impressed with your singing that song can go so wrong when family is singing :). GREAT JOB!

BTW... in my family we had a big issue with that song when one of my family member turned 96 years old 😂😅

Love the Polish. I can't speak a word. At 73, I can't remember all the words to sing to my son. Suggestions? Have you ever thought of closed captioning in English so we can build vocabulary. Enjoy your videos. GENCUYA! Phonetically speaking.

Okazji = occasion, no?
You mentioned honor, but I've never heard it that way.

I'm Polish in origin. Why are we so weird? Why can't we just sing Happy Birthday to each other like normal people?! 😀
