MMO RPG, Guild Wars 2, has continued to appeal to thousands of gamers and honestly I never knew anything about it until my community told me. As a new player who knew absolutely nothing, here are my first impressions of this 10+ year old game that is very free-to-play friendly.

FYI: Mounts are limited by story progress, not spending money. When Guild Wars 2 came out, it did not have ANY mounts for 5 years, up until the Path of Fire expansion. Also, you can play story content out of order, so you can jump ahead if you want.
So, if you want the raptor: Open Hero menu - > Story -> Start Path of Fire expansion story -> Play through the first chapter, will take about 20 minutes -> Now your account, ALL of your characters have unlimited access to the raptor.
BTW, in the cash shop, you can buy only mount SKINS. No mount is available through the cash shop.

In regards to no lag privilege, GW2 players are also spoilt in a unique way that we have no maintenance down-time as well. When-ever a new patch releases the new build of the game is released simultaneously alongside the old build and players are given a message to log-out and do a quick update within a 1 hour timer to update your game, it's all done seamlessly.

Always so lovely to hear new perspectives on this game. I really agree on the strange pacing of the story, and how it doesn't flow as seamlessly as it could -- when forced to go and level up more to unlock the next chunk of story.

I have been playing gw2 on and of since release ( also played many others in the past 30 years) one thing i love is there is no gear progression grind per say. Once you have ascended armor /weapons your pretty much sorted. Just the game gets harder and the skill ceiling goes up. This is something special imo, meaning i can take a break for a year, come back and still play with my more addicted friends. Not possible in any other mmo i have played.

What I like about gw2 is that when im stuck i just type /wiki (whatever I want to look up) such as /wiki legendary armor and wiki page would pop up.

I'm hoping for Janthir Wilds this 20th we will get more water stuff.

Welcome! I wanna mention 3 things:

1) You can buy skins and QoL items for real money, but none of them give you an advantage when it comes to combat. You can also exchange in-game money for gems, which is the real money currency. Do NOT buy hero points for gems. This is a new addition and a total newbie-trap scam.

2) Unique as it may be, the underwater combat is not popular within the community, and there is currently only one world boss underwater. It's kind of a shame, really, because I agree that it is a really cool feature.

3) The level cap is not currently 80. It is 80 full stop. Even with expansions, you can never go above that, and it is the original level cap. Anet has promised to never go higher, instead, we get what they call horizontal progression, with elite specialisations for every class. Ranger can become a Druid, Soulbeast, or Untamed, for example.

As someone who’s just now getting into GW2, you’re going to have weeks or months of gameplay before you even realize that besides the story chapters, there’s tons of other stuff to do in GW2. Even after you finish map completion and max out several crafting professions, you’ll learn how to get into strike missions, fractals and dungeons, plus raids, world vs world, PvP modes and the many repeating events that celebrate holidays or other lore based events. If you’re the type of person who likes completing tasks, then the achievements can keep you busy for months by themselves.
I’m at the stage of only enjoying the game when I’m doing stuff with other players, so if you’re ever looking for some help, or just want a companion to run around Tyria with, let me know.
Most important tip I can share is, don’t rush the leveling process, so you can learn how your character class works and improve your understanding of the combat system.

I have been playing GW2 for over 11 years and I am so happy that there are more new players joining the game all the time. This is an excellent game and continues to be so. Keep enjoying this amazing game. Buy all the extras, you will only enjoy more and more.

If you want to gain XP fast, the character achievement guide in the hero panel gives you things to do to gain large boosts in XP. Some of the lower level stuff really speeds up chapter to chapter.

For all f2p players, if you make an alt and play it to level 10 you get another mount trial, which can be used on any character across the account. So you can continue to refresh it on your main character whenever it runs out. You can also hold 3 mount trials at a time if you wanted to stack 3 then have 30 hours of mount available.

If you like what you've seen so far, you'll love the rest. The "play solo, but alongside other soloers" vibe lasts through about 90-95% of the available content, which is over 10 decades worth and still continues exactly like that in the most recent content. There is some group instanced content you can play that's good, but compared to the open world content it's a really small amount.

Players do like to argue over whether the "true endgame" is Fashion Wars or Inventory Wars. GW2 does throw a lot of loot at you which you have to learn to manage.

If you like the cosmetics you've unlocked this early I think you're in for a treat. There's quite a lot. Sure, a lot of the flashiest stuff is in the gem store. But there's a lot of really good stuff unlockable in-game in a variety of ways, though some of it does come with the expansions. And since gems can be bought with in-game gold as well as real money there's quite a lot that's accessible without spending much.
