I think for me the best artists are the ones with the most wider musical knowledge, experience and versatility, no matter where the artist came before. This is a great artist/album/music, very atmospheric yet metal, folk yet dark, lots of oestrogenes, a few male growls on some perticular songs might have helped for the purists but for me as a composer/author, she kicked ass of a lots of male author/composer of black metal out there, 4 out of 5 not bad at all, great job dude, keep it up!

Guys we all know that being a metalhead happens from our very early youth to the grave. You cant just turn to metal later in life, as if it was a new hobby. She is a metalhead and anyone could tell. She's not a pretty puppet in front of a band. She grew up listening to Emperor and Bathory. And she also had some pop project, well good for her!
Great album, great evolution. Live performance is 10x better.

As a norwegian male, die hard into BM, I love this album to death! Was going to see her at this years Midgardsblot, but sadly she had to cancel. Kudos on a great honest review.

Metal appropriation!?? Are people actually saying this? Nothing could be more ridiculous. Metal is for everyone. All art is for everyone to appreciate and create! Grow up metal community. If you don't like it don't listen to it. Or at least critique it based on its musical merits

Leave pop for metal? Great fucking decision.

I like it because it sounds good to MY ears. Amazing how simple that was.

I highly doubt the controversy is due to "femininity" but rather because someone looking for black metal won't really find it in several of these songs. I still really like the album (and the rest of her darker work), but I consider it more like ambient folk music with elements of black metal, rather than something primarily "black metal." I think it's useful to at least point that out. And no, I'm not a "purist." Experimentation like this is good for any genre at the end of the day.

Translations:
The name Myrkur in itself sounds to be a play with the Danish, Swedish and Norweigian names for darkness ( mørke, mörknad) approximating an ancient pronunciation, - outside of that I cannot see it meaning anything - it´s probably just an artist alias.
Mareridt( mare-ridt) means nightmare, Kulning ( kul-ning)is in fact an ancient Scandinavian high pitched herding call technique for women still in use to this day, Maaneblot (maa-ne-blot) means moon sacrifice ( blot being the actual Old Norse word from the Vikingr Age for sacrifice), Elleskudt ( elle-skudt) means alder tree shot, - would probably refer to Nordic mythology of the god Balder being shot with an arrow made from alder, Ulvinde ( ulv-inde) means she- wolf.

I think of this album more as a "Blackend" Atmospheric Folk Metal album. It's like 80's Dead Can Dance ("summoning of the muse" or "De Profundis") music colored with black and gothic metal textures

It's awesome to see you shining some light on an artist that I've been following for a few years and should be in every Metal fan's vocabulary!

People complaint too much! Myrkur is a very good artist with an incredible vocal range and she can do whatever she wants! I'm glad she's doing Black Metal and bringing lots of different elements to her music.

It will never stop being funny to hear foreigners absolutely butcher Danish and other Scandinavian words.

There's so much depth and experimentation here it's very hard not admit there's massive quality. Amalie is clearly quite extremely talented and has a wonderful taste for her art.

Let the girl play, the purists can drown in the shallow end.

it makes me see how you and BANGER TV grew bigger and bigger on Youtube

I fucking love Myrkur. I still frequently listen to "M" and pre-ordered this album in hopes that it lived up to "M" and I was not disappointed. I just love the blend of different styles of music, it's just really unique. It also opened a new door to more "folk" style music.
