What’s more important to you? Following your passion or working strictly for the money? I think it’s neither. You need to find a balance between the two.

Most people see it black or white and that’s why they’re either a starving artist following their passion or they’re miserable working a stressful job for a big paycheck. The real answer lies some where in the middle. Because you have to make money. You have to earn a living.

Money is important. And lack of money is scary. Debt, homelessness, starvation. Those are the extremes of not having money. And it’s rare for a smart intelligent person to be in such a defecit, but it happens.

So you have to make money a priority. But that doesn’t mean you have to drive stress through the roof or compromise your integrity. There’s always a way to fill in both checkboxes.

Your solution is some where in the middle. If you chose to do something strictly for the money, you better be really good at churning out an idea. Because competition is stiff these days. Whatever your goal is, there’s going to be someone else who is also trying to do. If you don’t have passion there’s no way to differentiate yourself. And no one will buy your story. How are you going to show your talent and your skill when you are just there for a paycheck. You need passion for your chosen career or business. Because you’re going to have to stick it out for a long time. You’re going to be told “NO” many times. And if you don’t have any passion for what you’re doing, you’re not going to have the patience to deal with all of those “NOs”.

On the other hand if you only have passion and no sense of how to make money, you’re going to be poor for a really long time. Just being passionate doesn’t pay the bills. You have to know how to market yourself and get people’s attention.

Fulfill yourself in both areas by finding a goal that meets both requirements of following your passion and making money. Just like all values in life, if you only focus on one thing other areas can suffer.
