Thank you for the taste test on the turkey. I am very limited on beef and pork that I can eat so this will be a big help.
My mother made wonderful chicken and turkey salid. She never measured anything. She put sweet relish, green onions, hard boiled eggs, mayonnaise and salt and pepper so good. I miss her very much. 😊

I can my turkey for the year after Thanksgiving when turkey is like 20/lb. I buy whole frozen turkeys (about 15 or so throughout the fall season as I go, we have a large family) debone them, and can them up raw pack in huge chunks. Ain't nobody got time to par cook in this house! 🤣 Always turns out great, and we get turkey for the whole year for pennies on the dollar. To me once it's canned, it tastes alot like canned chicken so we use it in a ton of stuff.

Thanks for the taste test. I've deboned a whole turkey before; it takes a while. Pro tip: don't sent someone else to buy it, they might come back with a Butterball.

I cook a whole turkey or bone in breast in my pressure canner. Makes it easy peasy to debone. I add some water and vegies to make broth at the same time. Then use the broth for canning the meat. So tasty

I use my canned ground turkey for chili!

To my ground turkey I usually add some chick broth or beef broth for more flavor - use wherever I would use gr beef. Not much of a beef person.

I've never commented before but I watch all the time. I watch on the big screen and can't comment there. I like to buy cheap turkey at Thanksgiving and can it .37 cents a pound last year. If you're familiar with Our Half Acre Homestead I do it like she does. A quick explanation she puts water, celery, onion, carrots and whatever else you want to flavor the broth. Then add the frozen turkey and pressure cook for 90 minutes. Strain the broth pick the turkey fill the jars add the broth and can. I was skeptical of cooking a frozen turkey and pressure cooking twice but it has worked great for us several times now. I have actually started cooking turkeys for family get together's in the pressure canner. No crispy skin but moist delicious turkey.

Yes, I always put a "splat" of sweet pickle relish in my chicken salad. It probably amounts to a tablespoonful. I also put grapes in it along with finely chopped celery, pecans if desired, mayonnaise, salt, and pepper. I once owned and operated a tearoom and the chicken salad was one of the most popular items on the menu. I have never made turkey salad. I have a turkey in the freezer, so ugly turkey will be my next canning venture.

Leisa I just grind my cooked turkey and add chopped celery, sweet pickle relish and mayo to taste. A family favorite. ❤

I made turkey salad with fresh chopped cranberries, celery, onion and mayo. I had the one with pickle relish too! I par cook a whole turkey in the pressure cooker with water and broth for a few hours, it falls apart and then I debone it and can it up. Yum!

Thank you for testing it for us. I'll never can ground anything again..it's a texture thing for me.

I have a bunch of old toms that I have been meaning to do in since last fall (funny how jobs like that get put off, isn't it?). Guess I know what to do with them now.😊. But all of my toms are handsome fellas, so I can never call them ugly (they strut and display and think they are such hot stuff, the hens totally ignore them). 😁

My son uses ground turkey a lot in tacos, chili, etc. so I will can that for him. The ugly turkey looked so good. My mouth started watering when you said "turkey salad." Yum! Thanks, Leisa.

Good to know turkey can be canned also. For some reason I've never thought of that. Thank you, Leisa

I love pressure canned turkey.
Also I made the parmesian garlic bread in the Neal Pottery bowl...it was FANTASTIC.
The fam ate it up with olive oil and balsamic vinegar!
