Edessa waterfalls - Macedonia

Edessa is a small city in Northern Greece. It is located in Central Macedonia. The city was founded in 813 BC by Herakleides Karanos with the name "Edessa". Later on, when Edessa was attacked by Slavs under the Ottoman Possession it was renamed " Vodena". This name was used up to 1912 when Edessa was freed by the Greek army. Since then, the city has been called 'Edessa' and has been inhabited since Ancient Times. Until the discovery of Vergina tombs (1977) it has been identified with Ancient Aigai, the first capital of the Ancient Macedonian Kingdom. The contemporary city is built at the position of the Ancient Acropolis. It is famous for its rivers and waterfalls.
