ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.

ABOUT US
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

Mind is subtle matter.
It depends upon energy from consciousness to perform its functions.
Consciousness has made matter.
Like wave and particle are alike and interchange their functions.
Light and information are eternal reality.

There was a question - when does the necklace stop being the necklace and become gold. Swami answered that it does not become gold as it is always gold. But the first part of the question still remains - when necklace stops being necklace. Probably the answer will be that the necklace is never there as it is not a reality and only appearance. But being a perceptive reality, it still needs to be negated with some effort. That effort needs to be defined.

Pranam swamiji, we want to hear this lecture in Bengali also.

What if we see it as ‘gold necklace’ ? Should it be either gold OR necklace? But he is right. Examples are just pointers and should not be stretched. Because ultimately, gold is also a name and a form.

Probably because of western education these students are asking same questions repeatedly.
They need to listen to great gurus like Swamiji and then sit down in isolation and contemplate on doubts that arise in mind.
These students should not interrupt class so many times with same questions.

Neti neti strategy sounds like my husband who will tell me what he wants to eat for dinner. Not this, not that. Finally i told him just tell me what you DO want.

Consciousness alone itself can do what functions.
Please tell how consciousness is useful in itself alone.
