City on Mars (Elon Musk's Plan) - Making Life Multiplanetary

Five years from now Elon Musk hopes to land at least two cargo mission on Mars. SpaceX will build the BFR spaceship to fly humans to Mars by 2024 in order to build a Mars base.

How does land something like this on anything except a pad that is level and smooth ?
It would have to have large extendable legs for stable, off pad landings with its center of mass and all the cargo at the top.
(I have yet to calculate the center of mass, so this is a supposition. )

The Lockheed Martin lander seems more suited for landing off pad though it's unlikely they are planning on paying for this themselves. Most likely Lockeed would need 5 to 10 times the development money

Don’t get me wrong i like elon musk, but he’s not the best speaker in the world

My un-favourite phrase of the moment - 'multi-planetary species'. What a dumb idea! We evolved to live on Earth and no other planet is suitable for us. I greatly admire Elon Musk but this would be a step in the wrong direction. Here are the 2 major challenges that he should be addressing, instead of wasting resources by going to Mars.
1) Protect Earth from asteroids
2) Make deserts habitable
There is a 3rd challenge which is probably much more difficult - 'reboot' life on earth to eliminate wars, poverty and malnutrition.
