Great content Joe. I am 63 retired for a year. Best year of my life so far. I walk every day do 5 days a week of weight trying and do mobility training. I get at least & hours sleep every day. I eat as clean as I can and my eating window is 7 hours. I was vegan for a while but now I eat meat and I do my best to only eat grass fed and organic. Even though I am not vegan I continue to make all of my own salad dressings out of cashews and beans. My one vice is red wine. I also take a lot of supplements. I often refer to my retirement as being all about healthcare. I want to be healthy as long as I am alive.

Its funny how 40 years ago people would drink milk, eat steak and eggs and smoked 2 packs a day were healthier than most people today.

I will be 59 soon. I currently do over 110 push-ups, 130 pull-ups, 360 leg raises, and 30 minutes of elliptical daily (except for Wednesdays, which is my fasting day); it takes about 80-90 minutes total. I eat almost exclusively a whole plant food based diet, with allowances for family get-togethers. Minimal sugar, sodium, and saturated fat. I also take a number of supplements for cardiovascular health and longevity. I started this regimen about a decade ago when my cholesterol and blood pressure were elevated and my doctor wanted to put me on statins and BP meds. I did take a lowest dose BP med for a few years, but have been medication free for years now. My BMI is 21.1 (healthy range 18.5–24.9). My BP is regularly around 105/65, and my average total cholesterol is about 160. I would highly recommend Dr. Michael Greger for his Nutrition Facts videos.

I'm 59. Lift weights 3 to 4 days per week and play tennis and pickleball a few times per week. I started listening to some of the Carnivore doctors as well and find it quite fascinating. As a result, I try to eat a mostly meat-based diet, prioritizing protein and fat and limiting carbs. It works well for me, but, like you, I have a carb addiction so I have to be very careful to keep my carb (and thus sugar) intake low. I've kept my weight the same since lifting weights and changing my diet over the past three years, but lost 3 inches in my waist, so I've obviously gained muscle and lost fat. In my opinion, Keto, Carnivore, or Keto-vore along with resistance training is the way to go, at least in my case.

Amazing video. Jesus is my life, and I have implemented many of your practices as a semi-retired pastor with T2D. Thank you for taking the time to share this.

I think you hit home the key elements (spiritual, mental, and physical health). All of these elements are different for each of us and how we address them is very personal just like finances. We all fall off the wagon with different aspects of our life but the key is getting back up! Failing to plan is just planning on failing which shouldn't be a option.

Love this video Joe. I am three weeks into retirement and miss my daily walk. I was a mail carrier so it was 10 to 12 miles a day.
We have a lot going on right now but plan on a new routine for my mental and physical health.thanks Joe!

As a still working personal trainer (my wife is retiriing in April), I tell my clients to "control what they can control and leave the rest up to God". Great info, Joe- if we can inspire just one person to take their wellness seriously, then I'll call that a win!

I’m 59 so right there with you. Been doing keto for 5 years with cheat days here and there. One thing about blood pressure. When you exercise your body makes nitric oxide which relaxes your blood vessels, to make sure blood gets circulated around. The nitric oxide lingers around all day and keeps your blood pressure down. I’ve done experiments on myself it really works.

Thanks Joe! I quit drinking 2 years ago. I’m 53. I eat low carb and have been doing typically 16-24 hour fasts daily for 5 years. I ride a road bike a lot when it’s warmer. I lift too. I also do HIIT but always with at least 48 hours between sessions.

You should consider researching and incorporating “rucking” into your routine. I do a morning ruck daily while in a fasted state and it has been a game changer for weight loss. It’s more kind on the body than running, and burns tons of calories. Also a great time to listen to podcasts/youtube while you do it 😁

That would be a good pickup line - “I can run up stairs and not breathe hard!”

Go to any graveyard and see how many 50/60 year old souls there. Very sobering Joe.

It would be cool if you could insert some B-roll of you doing the activities you talked about in this video.
