Hey filmmakers! Organization is something i've always struggled with when video editing, but after 8 years in FCPX, i've finally figured out a solution that is quick and easy! Today I'm sharing how I organize my video files, folders and libraries in Final Cut Pro X. This is just my process which I've developed after finding things getting messy when working on bigger projects in Final Cut Pro X.

Organizing your footage is essential to create a seamless Final Cut Pro workflow!

In this video, I will teach you how and when to use libraries, events, and projects!. Hopefully this video will save you some time and effort in your video editing workflow!

Thanks for watching, and I'll see you next week! :)

I hope everyone is safe and at home during this difficult time! As I’m not travelling anymore, it’s time to regular content! Let me know if you have any videos that you wanna see!!

The problem with placing all project files in the library is that the file path needs to remain in the motion templates folder in order to save animated features. I learned that the hard way. It's good to see that I'm not the only one moving so slowly towards better organization. Great tips here. Thanks.

Nice description and good info. New Libraries for each project is the key. Plus renaming each camera file is super important. Thanks again.

Thanks so much for this! I've been using FCPX for over a year and have always had such cluttered libraries.

That’s a really good tip to create a new library for each project, that way the library can live within your file system. Thanks for this!

Great info, Trying to clean up my FCP library Nightmare:')
You opened my eyes up to creating 15, and 30 second versions of your videos that adds so many possibilities. for later use while the project editing is still fresh in your mind before you archive it. That along with the file naming tips Good stuff thank you.

Thanks! I am just getting started with FCPX and sitting down to edit for the first time on this SW. Got confused on project vs event.

I learned something new today. Thanks... FYI, When Renaming in my computer, I had three choices when clicked on Rename. The first option that popped up wasn't the correct one. The correct choice is FORMAT; to be able to do what you are teaching.. Again, THANKS FOR SHARING...

Good knowledge here!
I really liked that video and it is SO important to be organised on bigger Projects if not ALL projects...

Marc...I really enjoyed this. I've always been confused about how to stay organized, as I'm a relative newbie to 'video' and FCPX, having come over from 'audio production', primarily. Pardon my naivety, but My question involves your response to someone else's question ("I always leave all my media in folders and never copy to library!") I'm not sure I understand? For me, I import all my media (audio and video) into mu project. Is that 'copying to the library'? I think it would be great to watch you do a video on starting a sort of sample project from scratch....from importing, saving, bouncing over to your H-D, etc. (in fact, my MacBook Pro is exhausting its hard drive space, and I'm sure it's because of my FCPX projects. I have plenty of external hard drives...I'm just not sure exactly how to utilize them efficiently.). Thanks, Marc!

Hey man thanks for this vid! Super helpful. I'm a huge Adobe Premiere user but transitioning to FCPX for the insanely fast export times and performance. I always feel so unorganized and so confused by file management in FCPX but this vid cleared up a lot for me!

Hi, tks for your video. So in your YouTube Channel the Library is your "Channel Marc Webster" and each YouTube Video would be an Event, Video 01, Video 02 ...?
