I once heard of the story of someone getting lost in the underground catacombs in Paris. Imagining that person wandering aimlessly, not knowing which way they came from and what way to go, and their battery on their phone completely dying, just to die alone in the cold, lonely and dark unknown place, not knowing if anyone will ever find your remains, is truly terrifying.

Something that’s very tragic is that while traversing the Paris Catacombs, a group found the remains of a young girl within them laying on the floor. Makes you wonder if there’s probably more farther into Catacombs.

I’m gonna sound like a psychopath but the catacombs of Paris are actually really interesting. It’s fascinating how it goes all the way under the city — and how it’s filled with literally ONLY bones.

I'm kinda late on this, the one about lake natron is that it's basically a very salty lake that it could burn off skin of any living being that are not adapted to it, however the picture of that bird looking like a stone is actually just purposely done by a photographer named nick brandt, he just found those dead flamingos on the shore and repositioned them however those birds still died looking like that with sodium carbonate deposits outside their carcasses, they're just repositioned for those photos. Very deadly lake and will eat you up with the amount of sodium and soda it has.

the color of Blood Falls is easily explained.
it is only red because it contains iron oxide.
but I can understand why its so scary. I'd be freaked out if I saw a glacier that looked like it was bleeding

also, there's a really great found footage film called As Above So Below that takes place in the catacombs of Paris. it also takes elements from Dante's Inferno. it's one of my favorite movies and I really recommend it (I think it got taken off of Netflix, where I used to watch it ☹)

There are plenty worse places, polluted and despoiled regions come to mind, like Lake Bautou in Inner Mongolia, an enormous artificial lake stretching as far as eye can see, filled with black, barely-liquid, toxic sludge.

The last one is scary and depressing not because the guy has cat allergy, but because the cats on this cat island are severely malnourished, many of them have a bunch of illnesses that are left untreated, they are neglected. There were many investigations done one places like the Cat Island and the Fox Village that shows the neglect these animals have to face.

I know it is tempting to go there, but don’t. Don’t support people who use the suffering of animals to lure in tourists.
