CIRRUS VISION JET: FIRST IMPRESSIONS

With action cameras rolling, Aviation Consumer Editor Larry Anglisano took the left seat in the Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet to experience the airplane for the first time. Here we've assembled some B-roll and unscripted commentary of initial impressions when flying the airplane from Pontiac, Michigan, to Hartford, Connecticut. Look for a detailed inflight report in a follow-on video.
Music by Larry Anglisano.

What a nice cockpit and instrument layout. Looks like a dream to fly at 27000’.

At the 2 million pricepoint there's noting (new) that can touch this. Many compare it to aircraft twice as expensive like the TBM and King Air 90. You should really compare it to the SR22 because those owners are the ones buying the Vision Jet. Big performance gain without the normal drawbacks a more capable aircraft brings with it. This thing is easy to fly and get insured on. Only possible fly in the ointment for Cirrus is that they have a backlog of 600 aircraft that they sold for 1.39 million. By now the aircraft cost probably more to manufacture. By the time those 600 aircraft have been built the people ploinking down 2 mil for a new one also have the choice to buy a used one. Same thing happened with the Eclipse. There are about 20 early positions for sale for around 1.39 million plus a $15k transfer fee. Cirrus is basically competing against itself for the next ten years if the production numbers stay around 60 aircraft per year.

I sense a ford influence from the cockpit vents

Looking at the price and perforrmance - this is an ideal first jet for an experienced SEL Pilot to transition to. I would jump all over an opportunity to get my hands on the controls of this beauty!

This is so much better than a HondaJet (in my opinion).

At 270 knots, you are about 200 knots slower than most traffic up there.  These things would really clog up the airways if they sell a ton of them.  With the anemic performance numbers and range, I doubt that will happen.

If the wings were foldable i could bring it back home on a trailer instead of paying airport parking fees

Hey Larry maybe you didn't pull back on the stick hard enough and that's why it seemed a bit reluctant on rotation. Just a thought, thanks for the review.

OMG you look so tense on takeoff, almost like you were scared to death.

Very nice. The question is, If I were to spend the money to become rated in one of these, what are the chances are actually being hired to fly one ?

This plane is so awesome I need 2 million dollars. Plus the god awful amount it probably costs for maintenance every year. I want one of these so bad. It pressurizes and has oxygen right? You can fly over 12000 feet at cruise? (nvm you just said you were flying at 27000 ft)

Seems like a reasonable aircraft with adequate avionics. What's the cruising speed and altitude ceiling

Funny, I thought Larry's opening monologue sounded like Paul B from AVWeb. Then I see Paul sitting in the back seat during the flight. Must have the same writer. lol

love the safety features, training, cockpit, number of passengers, but flying for 4 hours without a bathroom not good at my age. How much runway is required?

What do you think about the reliability of this jet? I see the hot exhaust of the jet engine so close to the tail fuselage and tail wings, this can't be good I think.
I hope, these parts are not made of carbon fibre....

so they cut the tape at about the 3min 13sec mark .. I presume they did so after swearing on video because of the near miss? I'm guessing it was a military jet crossing ahead of them on descent .. what happened?

Does the angle of the engine contribute to it feeling "nose heavy" taking off?
