98% correct. Ideally the sides (or edges) would be chipped to a rough condition, 25mm amplitude. Then apply a bonding agent. it creates both a chemical and friction shear bond.

We do this all the time. Especially with an exposed concrete floor/epoxy floor. We also add primer to the edges of the cut slab before pouring concrete and use fiber in our concrete. Overkill maybe, but can't afford to have cracks happen and have to fix them!

Def not overkill it’s the proper way to do it ! Well done

Good job!! Side note, it’s good you cleaned the cut edges just because it’s the right thing to do, but concrete doesn’t stick to concrete no matter what you do. You can use a bonding agent, but naturally it has no bonding ability. That’s why they call it a cold joint.

As flooring installer, I appreciate you taking the time to properly level your concrete. 👍🏻

Beautiful. I'm a concrete guy, done a handful of these little patch ups after the plumbers do their thing. My grandfather was a plumber and he would do the concrete tear out, run the pipes, and pour the new concrete after. He would do the same. Be proud of your work no matter how small the job is.

You can also wet the soil and compact it the day prior doing this job so to make it stiffer and not draw moisture from the concrete as it cures, some acrylic resin can promote adhesion to the old concrete and make it waterproof on the joints too.

Save your money on epoxy. Drill holes at 45 deg, bend the rod. Will not pull out after concrete hardens. Locked in by the bend

GRANDMA!!!! wtf! See, that's what I'm talking about. Your grandma is a G

Hey not bad for what you have / know. Great job using new rebar to reinforce new concrete. I'd maybe add longer pieces bents and tied to each other in a way. Other than that good job.

Only thing I'd comment is that there's a primer we use for our concrete repairs and need a strong bond. It's called MasterEmaco P124. Great stuff.

Not overkill at all dude good work you could even tie mesh to the bars to make it stronger

Clean all surfaces yes, epoxy dowels yes, concrete glue surfaces yes.

The epoxy is a nice touch. Will be adding that to my future concrete pours thank you sir

I do the exact same thing. Well done mate.
I also brush the sides with a thin solution of cement (so just cement with water, but very thin). Helps a lot with preparing the surface to bond with the new stuff you pour in.

Good job. The only thing we would also do in Australia is cover the dirt with a vapour barrier and install a penetration collar on the waste pipe or termite spray.

My teacher was my mother-in-law. Her ex- husband was a contractor around the 50’s. It is so amazing to see the tricks of the trade now on YouTube. In a way it is like our ancestors are still teaching us. But, reaching out to more people than they ever would have imagined.

Would expansion and contraction be an issue between the new concrete and the old concrete?
