"Just because you're on land doesn't mean you're safe"
Me: *chuckles* I'm in danger

I was on a plane flying through a mother fucking hurricane...one of the scariest moments of my life. The lady sitting next to me asked kept grabbing my hand, I didn’t even know her but she was nice. There was a loud bang and the pilot told us we couldn’t land. We ended up flying to a different city but we only had a certain amount of time. Luckily we landed on time and SAFELY...God was really watching over us that night.

Me living in a very hurricane prone area wondering when I'm going to be dealing with 8 feet of salt water again. And also not really caring because its a requirement to have all houses elevated at a minimum of 12 feet but the roof cannot exceed 53 feet and because we are used to it. Hatteras island is a glorified sandbar and we down here refuse to leave even for a category 5 hurricane, that is unless we are forced to.

Only hurricanes to really be wary of is a 4 and above. Although sometimes a 4 is hardly anything. What you really have to be careful of during a hurricane besides the water are the winds. Though 120mph winds aren't really that bad, like honestly sometimes my friends chill out on their porch during a hurricane.

Why am I watching this, I live in Ottawa and we barely get any hurricanes here (other than Hurricane Hazel in 1954). But if I lived in Halifax or somewhere in the Maritimes, then yes I'd have to watch this.

Tips:

1. Coastal area are for visiting, not homesteading.

2. Live above the flood plain and have a concrete house with a sturdy roof and no trees nearby.

3. Coastal areas ARE flood plains.

4. Evacuate! Evacuate! Evacuate!

5. Make sure your car is always topped up with gas and you have go bags for every member of the family as well as your pets. Sleeping bags, tarps, tents, camping equipment, water, food, snacks, medicines, flashlights, batteries, blankets, clothes, memorabilia. Be ready!

I grew up in Florida and that experience has informed all my survival preps. Be ready for anything!

So most of us knew about this
But for those people who live in places that a hurricane rarely appears
