How to Build a Gilded Age Mansion out of Gingerbread || Laser Cut Gingerbread Chateau-sur-Mer

We built a Laser Cut Gingerbread Mansion! Chateau-sur-Mer is and iconic American Mansion designed by Richard Morris Hunt, built for the Wetmore Family. It also serves as the backdrop for scenes in the Gilded Age on HBO. The outside is Mrs. Astor’s Beechwood, and a few of the rooms have also been featured.

Newport Rhode Island was the most fashionable place to be in the United States during the American Gilded Age. Chateau-sur-Mer was first built on Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island in the 1850s for William Shepherd Wetmore and stood proudly on Bellevue Avenue through the Gilded Age.

We put together our gingerbread rendition of the property and it was displayed at Marble House for the holiday season. We’re so excited to finally share the process.

Construction Gingerbread Recipe:
28 oz. Flour
1 egg
12 oz. Grandma's Molasses
6 oz. Sugar
7 oz. Crisco
3/4 tsp. Cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp salt

Bake at 300 degrees for 45-60 minutes
