It has some advantages and disadvantages compared to Arduino.

The main advantage of this IC is it's price, small size and low power consumption.
It costs about 1-2USD only.

But, It has less I/O Pins and smaller memory.
Moreover, not all arduino functions will work with this IC.
Thus, it is suitable for small Arduino projects.

Yeah, I have this ATTiny board (Digispark) — it's fascinatingly small: the whole board is 1cm*1cm. Dirt cheap as well. While I absolutely love the thing as a concept, you don't get much opportunities to use it. It's only reasonable where space is very tight, but energy is readily available, like inside of the flashlight I'm planning to mod. Even then, I'm still considering a PIC...

Will this work to simply turn 6 LEDs on and off in a repeating pattern? Also, once I program it, can it work on its own with being connected to the arduino board??
