My late v wealthy frugal Uncle bought 1 sunday paper a week. He'd remove coupons n trade n use. He'd remove funnies n wrap gifts in it n tie w string. Then after reading paper He'd wrap it round broom stick n secure with coat hanger that gave him 52 free fire logs annually n burn in woodburner. Then compost the ashes anduse n garden. When coathanger began brittle hed put it in scrap metal to sell. No waste n all useful functions.

I'd never buy from a thrift shop but mainly buy when items are on sale.
Also, never buy whatever is not necessary. 🎉

I have a little plaque on my kitchen wall that's been hanging tgere for nearly 50 years and it says:
"Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without "
That meant food, clothes, shoes, school supplies, and toys.
When our kids were little we did let them have some money for the icecream truck and it was a special treat. The youngest was 5 years old and kept saving his money. Next time I took him grocery shopping he bought a box of Popsicles to share with his friends the next time the icecream truck rolled by because he had noticed his friends couldn't afford to buy icecream. I wish I had noticed that!
