When you're collecting for retro Nintendo systems, you need to be cautious of all the fakes out there.

Repro cartridges are everywhere, and when you're paying big bucks for some awesome games, you need to make sure what you're buying is legit, so I hope this helps you make more informed purchases.

Sometimes they're not bootleg carts but official ones, they just had damaged decals so the decals were restored by someone

Thank you. Now I know how to make a more authentic looking bootleg!

As long as it plays fine and same as the original, I'm playing it.

Another tip!

Check the "i" in Nintendo.
Is the point on top of the i Blocky/square or circular?
If the little point on top of the i is square i, you've probably got the real deal

Good stuff! I’d imagine there are a lot of people out there who would try to scam collectors with knock off cartridges. Aero Fighter SNES is valued at around $600 for the cartridge with no packaging. It’d be very easy (and messed up) to make a large profit with counterfeits

It's unfortunate retro shops buy replacement labels for authentic carts, then sky rocket the price!

Great short. Might be worth mentioning to have them checked out if already owned, because there are idiocynchracies with certain games, and different systems (GBA is huge since theres many legit made repros out there) and if at a store try and bring someone more experienced, or get ahold of some repros sold as new somehow to help. It's pretty simple to not get scammed in person, but its easy in certain circumstances for sure.

#Shorts take seem to be working well for you! Thousands versus hundreds. Have you noticed a big subscriber increase? 🤔

I just hope they don't have any anti-piracy screens to give me nightmares

Some authentic carts are heavier/lighter than others (SMB gloptops vs. regular chipsets or even the 60 to 72 pin converter carts), and even the labels could have different variants or revisions to them. (Like SMB3 having the word "bros." On one side of the logo on one cart, and on another side on the other."

How to fake a Nintendo world championship golden/used in the competition: 1st: buy a reporoducion one, 2nd: buy a zelda 2 or top gun cartridge, 3rd: put the hardware from the Nintendo World championship reproduction cartidge into the top gun or the zelda 2 cartidge, 4th: change the labels to a Nintendo world championship printed one, 5th: sell it for thousands of dollars, 6th: enjoy. (pls like it, it costed me 15 minutes)

I have never bought an old cartridge based game before and I prolly wouldn’t care if it’s fake. As long as it looks convincing and plays the game normally, it’s fine with me.

Also if you shake it and you don’t hear the tiny pieces inside moving around it’s not ripe yet or probably a fake. Always remember to consume Nintendo products responsibly.

This made me think about a local game store that I really love and I thought “ooh I should go there” then I remember the day lockdown started it shutdown

I bought a fake cartridge of Super Metroid yesterday. Though I’d much prefer a real one it doesn’t really bother me, since I buy the games to play them I’m not trying to have a massive collection
