Hi John, just wanted to flag some data collection failings in WA (Western Australia). When asked about collecting data on omicron hospitalisations, McGowan said we neither code for vaccination status nor differentiate between admissions “with covid” vs “due to covid”. He made extremely lame excuses about lots of movement and not enough time to collect the data (inadvertently admitting most people are out of hospital after 2 days), before making an unconvincing undertaking to provided that data in future.

I wrote to WA Health weeks ago seeking data on omicron hospitalisation screening processes, on coding for “with covid” vs “due to covid”, and demographics (age, gender, cormorbidities etc), as well as vaccination status (partial, full, booster). I was sent a a generic reply directing me to standard govt announcement web pages, which offer little scientific data. WA Health does not appear capable of accurately monitoring the movement of omicron through the community. How are we supposed to know how successful the vaccination strategy was? How are we to know anything, really? It’s a shame, to say the least.

My wife, step son and I all got it at the same time. Step son was over it in about 2 days but my wife and I had it for about 6 days. I thought I had strep so I went to the doctor to be tested and came back positive for Covid. We are all unvaccinated and did pretty well.
