This is timely. My buddy is starting to get into lifting weights for overall health, and asked me for some pointers on rows, deads and bench yesterday. He's a mathy science guy. He's already got a spreadsheet only a few months in. I mentioned Dr. Mike's content, and we talked a bit about exercise selection. I'm going to send him this short.

This guy looks exactly like Dana White and Tom Hanks both somehow. I've been trying to put my finger on it for a month.

I really love your advice, its so down to earth, to the point and no-nonsense. Its really refreshing in this world of thousands of influencers with strong unique opinions

Ugh, Mike is so eloquent and funny it’s surreal. He’s obviously a very practised speaker.

I have a few parameters i use when deciding on on the best exercises.

1) what is most likely to be free
2) whats going to be the quickest to change the weight
3) what has the lowest risk of injury

When i apply these, a leg press with a weight stack is the "best" at that time.

I love this! Exactly how everyone should feel and understand what's helping that muscle build for a good connection and contraction. GAINZ 💪🏼👊🏼💯.

For squats the deciding factor is which one won’t pinch my sciatic nerve.

Training flexibility is so important. Every gym ive ever gone too, everyone magically does leg day at the same f***ing date and time... 😭 Just use whatever is open and do the best you can 🤘 itll work!

Fr though, why is it regional leg day every time im trying to find a rack??? 😭😭 Lmao.

I workout alone at 3am, because I don't have a spotter i typically use leg press instead of squats and dumbbells instead of barbells, i do this not because it isolates muscle groups but because if im ever in trouble i can easily and safely bail out. I dropped a barbell on my chest once when i was starting out and almost got trapped under it. Im still getting progressive overload and building strength but now i can be sure that if anything happens ill be ok.
Stay safe and lift heavy.

What's amazing though is how becoming conscious of tension makes you realise without focus, some how you can do a good exercise and circumvent a lot of tension without knowing with very subtle changes in technique.
