I love how you break filmmaking down very easily to understand for someone like myself who has slight Asperger's, OCD and learning disabilities, I've always wanted to be a filmmaker since I was a teenager in the 90's, I would love any field of it but have been really interested in cinematography and love to learn the process on how it's done but this dream of mine has never come true because of my issues.

This video and your other works like it are fascinating glimpses into a very niche industry, with it's own unique terminology and dynamics. As only a casual film watcher, I've seen so many of these titles credited (best boy grip, etc.), googled it a few times and forgotten what they do. Now that I have an audiovisiual reference to the functions of these crewmembers and all the behind the scenes work, I will remember and appreciate the films I do watch and all the effort that went into making them even more. It's like trying to make a restaurant dish at home and realizing just how much work goes into producing it. The next time you order it you think of all that effort and it tastes even better.

Also, as someone who works in rentals, just tell us what you're looking for and what your budget is. As long as it isn't completely ridiculous we're usually willing to work with you. I don't want to waste my time going back and forth with your for days trying to figure out how much money you have to play with.

Wanted to mention that here in the UK the most you’ll get a camera discounted at if you’re on an APA commercial production is 30%.

Most music videos get discounts in the region of 80-90% nowadays, and features/long form get charged at 3 day weeks, usually with at least a 50% discount.

Short films can be negotiated, usually for a flat fee rather than a specific rate per day, and rather than the DOP picking specific kit, the rental house will give you a certain amount of options for kit that isn’t being rented out on the particular days you’re shooting. For instance, I once had a job where we wanted an Alexa mini and some sort of S35 Cooke glass, but when we asked the rental house, they said all their minis where out at that moment, so we got Alexa 35s and anamorphic glass for the same price, must have been like £500 for 3 shooting days with the kit

Wish more people understood this. The industry as a whole.

What I mean is I've noticed the last few years theres people who claim to love film and television as a whole who are so ignorant as to how the industry work and say absurd things. As well as these grifters who speak like they have some sorta authority on the subject. Who think making a film or series is just the actors and director coming together and basically do whatever they want with no rules and all millionaires with some agenda. Who think its all easy and anyone can do it.

Its baffling how often I see people say this who claim to know and unabashedly push this absurd agenda. Ironic when they are the ones who say others have some agenda.

In Greece price is determined all from who is asking for the gear. It is a small market and everybody know everybody. So if you have a good name you rent gear cheaper.
