Neighbors in south Minneapolis say they're worried about recent crime, as crime reports continue to skyrocket citywide.

You know what's worse than all this crime? The fact you'll be vilified for defending life and property.

How can the people complain about police inaction when their city council has already acted to defund. When the police do act they are exposed to legal action (criminal and civil) if they just happen to do their jobs. Right now if I was a cop I would look out for myself first right now and not necessarily the city that has turned it's back on them.

Thank God I got out of the Southside 20 years ago. Used live on 37th and Columbus, just around the corner from the now famous Cup Foods at 38th and Chicago. Managed to survive somehow for 12 years there. I never used my couch or chairs. I would sit on the floor for fear of stray bullets coming in the windows from all the shooting that went on, sometimes daily - like these people are reporting. When you hear the buzz of the bullet go by after the crack, you know that's close. I used to go for walks wearing a bullet proof vest; a second hand duty vest given to me by a police officer friend. I figured if I didn't get out somehow it would just a matter of time until I was a victim of violence, accidentally or targeted. Had a number of very frightening close calls. Those neighborhoods look nice because they used to be nice, but they are controlled by gangs and are a war zone. These poor folks are kidding themselves if they think the city will be able to change the gang violence in their neighborhoods. It's a problem that you can't arrest your way out of. Not until the population stops using narcotics or we legalize them all will it ever end.
