Emotional outbursts over migrant funding at City Council meeting

The money approved by the City Council on Wednesday will only cover the costs of assistance for asylum seekers through June 30. CBS 2 Political Investigator Dana Kozlov reports.

I became homeless with a new baby. Husband lost his job, couldn’t find work. I worked at night but could not make enough to live on. I’ve been working since I was 14 years old. I was 26 and I applied and begged for help from the government. Nothing… literally nothing!!! We can’t help you!! They said Divorce your husband and we can get you some help…. WTH!!! People from other countries getting the Moon and stars handed to them. The eviction sign went on my door. However, my Hispanic neighbor bragged constantly to me in broken English, how she slept with married men to have babies for more money. They were charging her a penny a month and her apartment that was decorated to the hilt. That’s when my eyes opened wide!!

The US government is broke: City, state and federal. America is drowning and it simply cannot afford to sponsor foreign nationals on the taxpayers dime. No one is trying to be an a-hole here, but America can't police the world and it damn sure can't finance it. Especially when citizens are struggling. People can talk about "American values" all they like, but charity begins at home, with family. In this case, with fellow Americans.
