How about a planned series of movies based on John D MacDonald's Travis McGee books? In 2015, with a script from Dennis LaHanne and set to be directed by James Mangold, Chistian Bale and Peter Dinkledge had signed to to the first three Travis McGee novels, starting with The Deep Blue Goodbye. However, a knee injury forced Bale to bow out, and the entire film and series disappeared.
