You don't have to remove public instead of that make sure your class name and the file name are same or not. In your case, your class name is 'writing' and your file name is 'newsttrial.java' .

If it is not working try changing the custom class name because if we create two classes with the same name in a same package it causes error

I have same kind of problem, and i finally figured it out, when the file name have many underline, this might have an error when compiling, and it'll work fine if just remove underline and make sure that the class name is same as file name, does anyone know why??
