Things Only Adults Notice In X-Men: The Animated Series

Before the X-Men film series was reinventing what superhero movies could be, X-Men: The Animated Series was reinventing what a Saturday morning superhero cartoon could be. The beloved cartoon series dealt with some serious issues during its time on the air, including racism, religion, slavery, and a whole lot more, and it handled all of them quite deftly and organically. It was a show for kids first and foremost, but there were a lot of things that adults could appreciate in it as well. Let’s take a look at a few things that only adults noticed in X-Men: The Animated Series.

The mark of a good kids show is that you can enjoy it as an adult not only for the nostalgia but because it was just well-made.

This show was so awesome, because it stayed true to the comics. Chris Claremont is a great writer. Thanks.

I was 24 when this show started airing and in my prime partying years. I still usually found a way to watch it Saturday morning, then roll over and go back to bed LOL!

Anyone else feel like only Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart were able to capture the spirit of their X-men characters?

Best adaptation of the X-men live action or cartoon. Hopefully the MCU follows this model of the X-men.

The best part about this, is that they told you about the racism, bigotry and showed it in a way that didn't feel forced. The "diversity" is the same. We same mutants and characters of all shapes, sizes and colors and not once did it feel that they were there just to tick a box of diversity. This was good writing. Many of today's writers should take a note from this show.

This series has everything, it's awesome. The fact that it has many similarities with our real society makes it intriguing and educational. Too bad kids now aren't allowed to this kind of high quality cartoons

Being discriminated against makes a person grow up fast. These "subtleties" didn't go over my head as a child. I related to the stories, which is why I will always be a Marvel Comics fan. Brilliant minds led by a brilliant leader. Much love Stan Lee. RIP!

X-men told us how racism and bigotry affected us before Attack on Titan made it even further.
