Before the X-Men film series was reinventing what superhero movies could be, X-Men: The Animated Series was reinventing what a Saturday morning superhero cartoon could be. The beloved cartoon series dealt with some serious issues during its time on the air, including racism, religion, slavery, and a whole lot more, and it handled all of them quite deftly and organically.
